Hello!
You can go to Admin CP > General > Configuration > Scroll down to 'Pages structure' > Set width in pixels. Like 750px > Save.

Thank you ankillien. I have another question what's the difference if I use % or just the number.

Re: How to make the forum to use a fixed width?
If you use %, it will make the forum width fluid/liquid which will adjust width of the forum as per the viewers screen resolution.
If you use pixels, it will make the width fixed (say 500px) for all kind of screen resolution.

How come this option to have "fluid/liquid" screen size isn't available in phpbb3 or Invision?

It is there for all versions. You just need to use % for the width value.
For example, 80%.
If your forum is using personal CSS then that changes won't make any effect.
