What is a Portal
I'm new to this - my forum is only a day old. Could someone explain what is a Portal and do I need one? What is it's function?

Re: What is a Portal
Hello and welcome.
Because you are new, here are useful links where you can look for answers :
Frequently Asked Questions
List of the Frequently Asked Questions' topics
Tricks & Tips
List of the Tricks & Tips topics
The Search feature
The FAQ of Forumotion.com
Moreover, if you don't find the answer for your question, don't hesitate to open a new topic since this section is made for this!
To answer your question: We also have a rule in regards to the title of your thread. It needs to be most specific to your problem thus utilizing the search feature. Might suggest maybe What is a Portal? So please change your title by using the edit button in the first post, to change it. Until then we cannot, nor any other member will help you further.
Thanks!

You dont need a Portal, but it does make your forum look a bit better I think. It can be the first page that people see when they access your forum and you can set it up to give the casual viewer a bit of a hint of what is on the main forum. Here's what the Portal for my forum looks like,
http//:www.tropicalfishfanatics.forumsmotion.com/portal.htm (copy and paste it into your search bar)
although you can decide what you have on yours to make it look as you want (within reason).
Hope it helps a bit
Re: What is a Portal
kirk, you should listen when it has been said that the topic title should be changed first before an answer will be given. There is a reason behind this. Now if the title is not going to be changed, you have helped one, but no other users will ever find this answer anymore. In future, don't ignore the moderations or you will get warned.

A portal is a front page that visitors see that you can set up images, text and all sorts of things.
You dont need one but they are cool to have

Keep in mind tho, that the portal will be open for guests to view. So if you were hoping to have a private forum, then a portal might not be your best bet, as you cannot hide it from non-members.
