Help us : Spelling/Grammar/Structure Errors in ENGLISH

Post by Cornelia on September 26th 2007, 4:45 pm

First topic message reminder :

For all members, especially the ones for whom English is their first language.

Even if a blitz of corrections has been done in the English language files lately, there might be still some errors left. That's why I seek your help in order to finish these corrections.

To report an error

  1. Post the word or the sentence where you see an error
  2. Give the correction you suggest
  3. Give the location of this error (ex : In the admin panel > Modules > Portal Structure > "Adding of existing modules") It is advised to provide a screenshot of this. If you don't know how to take a screenshot, look here

We ask you to not post an error report if the error is one of these followings :

  1. Having "Parcourir" when you upload a file/picture, and "Envoyer" when you use the founder's utils. In these two cases, this comes from your browser's language. So, if your browser is in French, these buttons will be in French. If your browser is in English, the buttons will be in English.
  2. Buttons (nav links or messages buttons) in French such as "Citer", "profil", "mp", etc. If they are in French, try to add _en before the .gif, or try to reinstall this styles in Styles > Choose your styles. If it doesn't work, this means the style isn't translated to English yet.

Thanks for your collaboration.

'This field is displayed in writers’s profile and in the members’s profile page'

writers's should be writers' and members's should be members'

this is in step 2 of creating a personalized profile as spotted by skittles.

Don't be sorry. Wink Sounds good to me! I just made grammatical and spelling changes, with trying to keep the original format of the rules written as they were.

The changes that you made were very good, and have some great wording.

Altho, I didn't look in great depth, I only saw one thing.

- If you post information that comes from another site,Check first to see if the site in question allows this.
Just a space after the comma and a lowercase c for check. "another site, check first..."

There is some mistakes in modules. When we create html pages it shows .html while really it is .htm only.

The Boxed message Appears to be a Typo.

It Should Read, "A new message had just been added while you write yours."

Or Something along those lines Wink

Hi,

In the points management area under Current Situation it says "You dispose of XXX Mb of storage for your gallery" In english dispose means to get rid of, it took me ages to realise this is where I added storage for the gallery. So it should read more like

You add XXX Mb of storage to your gallery OR
You have added XXX Mb of storage to your gallery

(I hope it was OK to use italics, I know bold is for moderators)

Thanks

Typos in auto responder messages

Post by Sabbassi on June 27th 2008, 8:43 pm

Admin or techs, can you fix these please?

In the Welcome auto-responder, there is a line that reads, "Please keep this email for your savebox. Your account informations are as follow:" It should be "Your account information is as follows:"

There is another line that has a run-on sentence and improper wording - "Your account is currently inactive, the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another email when this has will be done." It should be, "Your account is currently inactive. The administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another email when this has will (delete "will") been done."

On the Account Activated auto-responder, you have a run-on sentence and improper wording. "Your account on (forum name) has now been activated, you may login using the username and password you have received in a previous email." It should be, "Your account on (forum name) has now been activated. You may login using the username and password you have received in a previous email."

Thank you for taking care of these Smile

Ok, i've done with all the translation button, thx anyway salut. But somehow i can't modify this button from Admin Panel->Display->Pics Managements->Button... I believe its translated "post from". I've already tried with the _en before the extension, but i guess this button hasn't been translated yet, or did I do wrong? FYI: I use phpbb2 templates. Please help. thx Very good

Re: Help us : Spelling/Grammar/Structure Errors in ENGLISH

Post by Cornelia on November 7th 2008, 3:03 am

For techies.

I am currently recoding and correcting my (x)HTML instruction pages I include in my FM skin packs, and right now, I am correcting words in my pictures list table.

While doing this, I noticed a detail that might confuse people. In Admin panel > Display > Pics management > Advanced > Buttons, the "new topic" and "new post" buttons are both identified by "Post a new topic" on the left side in English, while the first button is for topics, and the second button is for PMs.

Here are the screenshots :

So, for the second button, the correct word should be Post a new message or Post a new PM

EDIT : Same issue in the French version

Thanks in advance... hoping that typlo or canceo will respond.
