Solved Home page is fine, forum page is stating I have malware installed. Important Update!

Post by cecesaun1 October 16th 2010, 12:20 am

I can sign onto my forum home page with no problem, however when I click the 'forum' link a warning pops up stating that malicious malware has infected my forum. I checked as far as I can go and it's stating it's from 'Google', the warning, not the infection.

Why would it show just one part of the forum and not the part as being infected and how do I fix this. I've had no problems with any other site, nor this site regarding an issue so serious.

Can you help me?

My site home page is http://cecesaun1.forumotion.com/portal.htm

The forum link is http://cecesaun1.forumotion.com/forum.htm

It's stating that I have elements of xmages (which I've never heard of) but it's stating that site is the infected site and somehow has put something in my forum.

I'd appreciate any and all help you can give me.
Thanks bunches!

Hi,

I can guarantee you, that is nothing that the technician's have put there; I don't get a warning anywhere on ur site either.

Have you recently added any new scripts in the widgets or anywhere?

No new scripts and the only widget add ons have been made through the actual site. I did recently have a countdown timer up because of a contest I was hosting. But that has been off for 2 days now and this just happened today.

I'm still getting the warning page when I try to log onto my home page. I def did not think it was anything the tech's here did. Anything I can do, I'm sure that probably some members may be seeing this warning and even if they don't I'd hate to be responsible for any computer damage they get trying to visit the site.

Any solutions? I can think of nothing that could have installed this, but I do know that I want to get it off.
Help?
Thanks!

I will go through my widgets and see if I see that anywhere and get back to you. Thanks so much for helping me! And no...I did not click on it, I haven't tried to bypass the warning sign.

Could I ask what browser/s are the members receiving this on, as well as what anti-virus is being used?

Just went through my widgets and found nothing with xmages in the code. I have a contest going on right now, people have to upload their pictures to the site, could that have possible infected my site? I can't check that out because the contest is on the forum page and I can't get to it.

I don't see this as really possible since the pictures have been posted for several days with no problems.

Can I ask, what is xmages.net. Could a bot have infected me? I've been seeing bing on quite a lot. Google is on daily, but just now noticed the frequency of bing.

I'm using Chrome, I know the members vary, from firefox, ie and chrome also. I use McAfee anti virus. Nothing else is showing any signs of being infected and I ran a scan and it showed up clean. I am assuming that it's saying that just my site is possibly infected because it's not listing any other sites or places on my computer.

As far as the browsers members are using that could be using be seeing this also, I don't know, I haven't been able to contact them due to the forum page being blocked so I have no way to ask them. Crying or Very sad

I just tried using Foxfire and it doesn't show the warning. I'm still a bit nervous with Chrome showing the infection and firefox not.

Don't worry, your forum can't get infected; it's most likely a script.

xmages is Woah O.o . Thank god for google.

Alright, xmages.net is a image host (like photobucket or tinypic). There's been atleast 1 image or link involved with this site (would have http://... in-front of it though)

Lets simply disable it by blocking it, then we can find it replace the image now we know what's going on Very Happy

So you know where the thread is?
First: head to: Admin panel >> General > Word censoring > add in *xmages.net* (Ensure you add both of the '*') then save it.
Now go to that thread with the thread that you said it could of been, and if you see the text xmages.net or similar, copy/paste the image url and re-upload it somewhere such as servimg or photobucket, and insert that there instead.

xmages is a blocked site according to google, find out more; click here

I just tried using Foxfire and it doesn't show the warning. I'm still a bit nervous with Chrome showing the infection and firefox not.

I'm on firefox, the warning doesn't show, but the site xmages.net itself is blocked Wink

The reason chrome displays it is because it has been integrated with Google's site checker thingey, which firefox has not done so. But FireFox also blocks potential threats if it can, as an inbuilt item, which Chrome doesn't have.

xmages is woah? Is that a naughty site or something?
I don't know where it is located. I thought that maybe someone had somehow used it to make their photo for the competition perhaps. I will have to thread through those and see if I can locate anything with xmage.

I will report back to you and let you know what I find, if I find anything.

Thanks so much for your patience with me and for helping me!! Very Happy

I have went through all the pictures that were entered in the contest and none used xmage.

I'm doing a little research on google, very confusing...any suggestions. Google did suggest I shut the site down until the problem is resolved so I don't infect others computers so I did. If you need to get on my site to continue to help me just let me know pleasel

Yeah, but I've members that won't come to the forum because this blaring warning label is popping up. Is there a way to get rid of this warning? If not, my site is going to fall apart and I will lose my members and guests.

What can I do? Sad

So, does the malware still continue?

If so, what was the last 3 actions (As far as settings) that you did before this poped up?

May I ask just how old your forum is too?

I've been replying to some of my members through another members blog, and some get it and some don't, every one of them with Chrome get it, none of them have IE and those with firefox don't get it. I promise you it's there and I'm going to start losing my members if I can't get it fixed...if the warning hasn't scared them off already.

I still get it, as well as some of the few members that I've been communicating with via a members blog site. I ran a contest and it was time to judge it, I wrote up the scores and comments and critiques, applied them to the page with the contest and that's it. Nothing new since then. Just regular correspondence with several members via my site. No new games, ad's, widgets...nothing. Just one day it's working fine, then boom, sign on the next morning and I get the warning.

My forum will be a year old in Jan. 2011

Edit: forgot to add that I placed a 'countdown timer' on the forum for the contest. I allowed voting via the poll and put a timer up so people would know how long they had to vote.

One of my members came across this: http://www.cstylessims3forum.com/technical-problems-with-site-f61/

So what do/can I do now? Thank you all for helping me! I was getting so depressed, and probably will be until I get this problem cleared up. I know just finding this link does nothing, it still has to be approved by google and that is another headache on top of this.

Please click the link and it takes you directly to the link she posted.

Alright, thanks to your member there's 2 thing's I'd suggest is wrong.

The eaisest way to fix this: Go to: admin panel >> Display > Colours > CSS Stylesheet > Hit the CTRL + F on your keyboard and insert this http://xmages.net/upload/76d8ff33.gif if it comes up, let us know, you may have to replace the image.

The other way, it appears to be a bad text ad, which we'll need to get Typlo to pop in and help out from there.

EDIT: Well, Ive found it hahahaha
Head to: Admin panel >> Display > Pics management /Advanced mode > and locate a changing image that has orange boarders, black background and orange text that says "Onemoresim by black sweety"
I'm not sure what option it's under, so you'd have to find it.

I don't understand how inserting that link directly into the CSS will correct the problem. Wouldn't that just be a def infection directly into/onto my site? page 1 of - Home page is fine, forum page is stating I have malware installed. Important Update! Mouais I have no problem deleting the image, I just haven't done anything until I'm sure I am taking the proper steps to totally rid my site of this icky mess! Rolling Eyes

And on my Members...some of them are so sweet and kind. One even typed that she would die without Cstyles...I guess she see's it as some sort of haven outside of the real world. I love you

I see no problem in deleting it, I just don't understand all the stuff Goggle is requiring to not only have my site, verified but cleared of infection and the warning removed. I will be bald from pulling my hair out before this is all done!! page 1 of - Home page is fine, forum page is stating I have malware installed. Important Update! Mouais

I meant if it's there we'd have to remove & replace the image, if it's not there, then we'd have to work another solution.

My research into this image has found:
Head to: Admin panel >> Display > Pics management /Advanced mode > and locate a changing image that has orange boarders, black background and orange text that says "Onemoresim by black sweety"
