Increase your forum's ratings

Share your experience and tell by what means you have increased your forums' ratings.

1. Add your forum's URL in the main research engines :

* Google - Most simple, but it takes time before your URL is added.
* Dmoz
* Yahoo
* MSN
* Altavista :

In English

In French

In Portuguese

* Sapo (Portuguese)
* ... send us other URLs, we will add them

2. Add your forum's URL in specialized websites :

* Forum Search
* ...

3. Talk about your forum in other forums wich have approximatively the same subject

4. Talk about your forum in the Forum pomotion section

These are the the most used I know (beside the ones that are already on the list)

I've got also another tip... tell about your forum to friends who are intrested in the forum's subject and who usually talk in the web (mIRC, MSN, etc)...
If the forum is intresting certainlly they will promote it to their friends who share the same intrests Wink

One other thing... I'm sure you don't want only new guest visitors but to have regular users who are registed in your forum...
To achive that you should regulary update/improve your forum with new information.
You can also create an area for members to chillout a bit, whith games, funny stuff and things like that... That should make the members come more regulary to your forum Very Happy

Another trick which is often neglected : In your profile, you have a "Forum" field where you can put your board's URL.

By adding the link in your profile, you will have a

button underneath all your posts, so people can visit your board by clicking on this button or by consulting your profile.

Another thing that might help is making a wide variety of forums and then having a few posts in each to start discussions. I think this also increases your forum point value on forumotion.com in the directory.

you must have stickied thing abd rules on every section...

as you know Questss dont like a default theme forum
yeah being an admin brings you more responsibility..
you have to let your site be beautiful and attractive to guests..and activity too..to let your members be active and join every activity you make for your forum... blackeye

What I find helpful is looking for BIG BIG BIG forums, and in the section that mosts matches your forum, (check with one of that forums moderators first) and create a discussion about your forum.

The results were pretty good for me. I put a topic about my forum on Skyscrapercity, which has 81,000 members, and throughout tonight users there have been viewing my forum Smile

No registrations yet, though Sad

Yeah at the beginnig I also did'nt have some users.Then I used Google to reg my forum and some people started coming even though we are still pretty small

Another thing you can do is put your website adress in your signature, when you're on other forums, so that people think of visiting your site. Maybe your website and a brief phrase that gives an idea of what it's about.

And if you have a myspace account, advertise your site to a lot of people.

Myspace is big, people there are diverse, you might find a lot who share your interest.

The best way to get new mambers in my eyes is by word of mouth, like telling a friend or mentioning it in other forums. but then again my forum doesnt have too many members so I dont know...

i own a staffordshire bull terrier forum, what i a did was go to most of the staffordshire bull terrier sites without a forum and most of them have a link exchange page so if you have their link some where on your forum they will add your link to their link page too

I've created a user-bar for my forum. I attached it to my signature in diffrent forums. I began posting the user-bar about a week ago.
The nomber of forum views has tripled itself.
Though no one signed in >.>

What ive been trying to do is promote my site through forum reviews
i try to find other forums that allow me to place a link or affiliate button . In addition i also get tips on improving my sites appearence and what not. Also using your sites own internal "meta tags" is a good way to insure search engins pick up your site Wink
