IP confusion
Right, normally when you click on the See IP button on someoneīs post it goes to a page where you see this kind of information:
IP of this post 123.456.789 (10 posts)
Other users posted with the same IP
Userone (7 posts)
Usertwo (3 posts)
That I understand - two users have posted off the same IP.
But there have been several times when it comes up like this:
IP of this post 123.456.789 (10 posts)
Other users posted with the same IP
Userone (10 posts)
Usertwo (10 posts)
Whatīs going on here? The numbers donīt match and add up.

Wow you got me. your saying it's a total of 10 post for an example.
and that two users with the same ip both have ten post wich is a total of 20.
Well i would check out there profiles.. may be both users have the same total amount of post in for each account.. meaning they both have ten post in. so it's showing as 10?
but wait. then it should bring the total to 20? so dunno man but check out there profiles and see. and why do the have more then one account anyway?
sometimes it can mean that it's a shared computer with two different people on the same forum. but most of the time it's the same person with more then one account.
make sure it's not spammers when you come across that to. if so ban them all.. haha
for real.
but yeah they only thing i can suggest is to check out there profiles and see what there post are?
Re: IP confusion
No, theyīre two individual users. I can do screen prints if need be. Would you like one? And itīs not like that with one/two uers. Several users.
I have two users that I know of who are sisters using the same computer but theyīre posts show up normally.
Iīm thinking maybe itīs just a visual glitch of the forum. Canīt think of anything else. I have contacted the people with the weird IP issue asking them why they have two accounts (I only allow one user per person) and they have no clue what Iīm talking about. At first I thought they were lying but it happens quite a lot now so I donīt know.

Re: IP confusion
Oh and this could be stupid but maybe itīs something to do with dynamic IP adresses? Could it be possible that two different computers post on the same IP because of that.
edit: I made a screen print of three users having the same IP and the numbers not adding up.

edit2: This gets even more confusing. When I go on the other two usersī IP page it says the IP is the same but the total amount of posts is the users number of posts. On oneīs page it says the total is 1, then on another 15 and that one there says 29.

i am actually a Lil stumped on the whole thing.
But i do know the majority of the time you have different users coming from the same ip.. it's the same person with different accounts.
other then that i am not sure why that is coming up like that with the number of post. whats there post count saying in there now?
did you go through there post befor like i suggested too?
Re: IP confusion
For various reasons some people use a proxy server eg. http://www.hidemyass.com/ or programs like AD-muncher http://www.admuncher.com/ eg http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/10/04/get-free-ad-muncher-license-to-block-popups-banners-and-advertisements/ .... so it looks like they have logged in under many iP's
Re: IP confusion
The one with 29 is 32 now, the others are the same.
And the one with 1 post has posted in on of the other usersī topic, so it could be the same person, but the numbers are confusing and make me unsure.

Could this be the reason why the post amounts donīt make sense eventhough the IP is the same? I donīt know anything about these things.

Re: IP confusion
Right, there were two users with the same problem.
One of them is a trusted user and I donīt think sheīd lie. Her aswell as the other user both have dynamic IPs and one of the addresses was shared.
Another two girls have the same problem, but they are two different users posting off the same computer/IP, they admit it, theyīre sisters. I know that for sure cause they were members of on another forum where I was a mod.
That makes me think the other ones are lying, but still why doesnīt their total amount of posts add up, this turns the whole thing upside down.

Thatīs two sisters posting from the same computer.
