Re: Forum Rules
rules like what?
can you be more specific.
what do you want phpbb rules or are there additional rules on that phpbb forum?
what ever they are i guess it would just be a case of copying the rules then applying them to your forum.

Re: Forum Rules
Hi,
Monk1, there might be a CSS code to do that, but I don't know it (I don't know much CSS)
But I know it's possible via template editing in phpbb2 & PunBB.
Spuddie, open a new thread and we'll gladly help out

Re: Forum Rules
Well LH Justin, said can be done with JavaScript, CSS3, or even Templates, but phpBB3 doesn't have that so it could be nice if someone knows the CSS code for this.

Re: Forum Rules
Well they are useing phpbb3 forum witch has the option to add forums rules.Forumotion do not have this option at this time.
See they have different rules for each forum and some forums have none.
That's because they have the option to add rules right to the forum when they are creating it.. now if may be able to apply one set of rules that will show up there every time someone clicks a forum but as far as changing them and haveing different rules for each forum i do not see this happening even with css.
If you where useing phpbb2 or punnbb it would be very easy to add.
you would just have to create the image, then add the text on it useing photoshop and then upload as an image and add to the top of the
(viewforum_body) (= forums page) template, submit then go back and publish.
Or you can add a code that will allow you a border color, back ground color, dimensions and a place to add the text you wish and also have this in the same place.
As far as css i believe this can be done that way too. but once again it would have to be one set of rules for every forums. and would most likely have to be a shopped image like i said above.
i am looking into css now.. not my best area.. but i think i may have something that will work there.. not sure.
other then that.. then it would have to be done on phpbb2 or punbb via template edit.

Re: Forum Rules
It takes a lot of Css and you'd need template editing, as kirk mentioned.
For Phpbb3 (no template editing)
You could place a forum rules table in any forum post
and position it in an open space (top right etc)
Scroll up and look at the top of this page for an example
of placing the forum rules table on the banner (top right).
Here's how to place the table up there
The current setting is position:absolute;top:20px; right:35px;
Example of placing it in an empty forum space: → Z2 testing

Re: Forum Rules
Where would I place the coding?
Also if I do this will it allow me to add it to separate forums?
EDIT: LOL! Is it just me or is the forum topic rules showing up in the top left hand corner of this thread?

Re: Forum Rules
Add the table code "to any post" in a thread
for it to appear at the top of the thread...
or edit the table style "position" to move it.
Here's how it is positioned in the table style tag:
[ position:absolute;top:20px; right:35px ]
@ blindbat1457, Haha, no you aren't seeing things
that's where I placed the forum rules table example.
Waiting for kirk is to post about adding this type of table
with template editing -for those with punbb and phpbb2.
To recap (so we're all on the same page):

To recap (so we're all on the same page):
- Spoiler:
- Since the original poster has phpbb3 it isn't possible to
add a forum rules table to the spot in his *example pic
without template editing. If you place table code I posted
above in "any forum topic post" you can position it on
the topic page, like I have in the example (top right,
on the banner) as if it were done with template editing.

Behaviour??? wrote:What about for PunBB Users?
Do you not know how to read.
Rono how do we post it at the top of the category. So not in a topic but inside the category like the example image in post one? You said template editing but could you shows us how exactly?
I think this should be posted in the tricks and tips section as a tutorial as I can bet you a dollar to a doughnut that a lot of people will want this

Re: Forum Rules
To place the forum rules table at the very top (example picture) Copy and paste the code below to... Admin Panel»Display»Templates»General»viewforum_body Directly after: {BOARD_INDEX} |
- Code:
<table width="100%" height="30" style="background-color: #ECD5D8; border: transparent; border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; -moz-border-radius: 4px 4px 4px 4px;-webkit-border-radius: 4px 4px 4px 4px; padding: 8px;margin-bottom:2px"><tr><td border="0">
<center><font color="#BC2A4D" size="2">
<strong>Forum rules</strong>
- No swearing
- No spam
- No advertising</font></center>
</td></tr></table>
I found, during testing on a Phpbb2 forum, it looks better directly before this section: {TOPICS_LIST_BOX} <div id="info_open" style="display:''"> Admin Panel View [click] (remember to click publish) It will look like this [Forum Topics View] |

Different rules for different forums?
You can customize each new topic by...
Adding content to a forum's "description field"

Re: Forum Rules
Well I mean at the top of the page like so:
General Chat Forum
Debate Forum
Right now it is just a global rule announcement. I mean individually but up top of the forums and not in the description. Is it possible?

Re: Forum Rules
you are not going to be able to get a diiferent set of rules in different forums or categories like that.
Like i had said in my first post there is an option on phpbb3 from phpbb host that allows you to add the rules to forums, sub forums and categories.
That is how the are able to get a different Set of rules for different forums etc..
Forumotion do not have this option at this this time. so you can add a set of rules in the same place with the coding rono has provided for whichever way you want to do it.. but it will just have to be the one set of rules.. there is no way to have multiple/different rules for each section/forum like that.
but you can always put your own additional rules in a sticky, or forums description.
and blindbat1457 what do you mean how to put it there it looks like you already have there in the screen shots.
You can basically add the code in any template anywhere you want it.
but i will have to know where that is so i can direct you to the right template and where to place it.
anyway where it is in your screen shots it would go right here.
In the view forum body = forum page template

I made mine a lil different. i have it scrolling. i just added marquee tags nothing to complicated.
Man there are a zillion different ways you can make this code.
i mean you can add background image, blinking text border etc..
but we dont have the time to sit here and explain all the different things you can add to it so we will juts keep it basic then you can alter and add things you want yourselves
So that pretty much explains everthing thats needed to know on how to add this.
but once again you will only be able to add one set of rules and not have have different ones for different categories or forums.

I changed the code and took the second screenshot.
It is in the right place. All I wanted was a way to make it separate rules but now I know you can't so never mind.
