Hiding Posts
First topic message reminder :
Hello All,
On some forums that i am a member on, it is possible to hide a post. This would remove the name of the author and all of the message. This would make moderating easy as you wouldn't have to edit a post to say "Content Removed" All you would do is press a button to hide the post. Also, the post that you hid would not be uneditable to stop members editing moderation comments out and putting offensive content back in.

Example:
Lets say that a member posted a swear word, this swear word was "Boo", so a moderator came along and was like, OH he just posted "Boo" i'm going to have to hide that, so the moderator:
a) Inserted the [Hide] Tags. Members posted after this and then saw the swear word "Boo". Also, the member who posted "Boo" cam back from his 24hr ban and edited the post, removed the tags and put "Boo" back in.
b) Hid the post, all he had to do was hit one button. Members that posted after the moderators post didn't see anything, it was all fine. When the member came back from his 24hr ban, he went to edit his post to replace "Boo" and noticed that there wasn't an edit button! The word did not re appear.
That's a made up example, but can you remember when that disgusting member who came and posted all the graphic pictures of car crash victims? Skittles, who was the moderator at the the time, has to go through editing all of the pictures and replacing it with => Removed etc, all she would have had to have done was press Hide, and it would be gone!
As you can see, it is easier to hide the post, than delete it as this would cause confusion.
If you have any questions please post below.
Thanks for reading,

I voted no because it can already be done through CSS.

Re: Hiding Posts
hmmm well you can always use the [hide] tag
if the user doesn't reply to the topic then they can't see the contents that are in the [hide] tag
I'm not sure
I'll vote yes for now

Um...with phpBB3, yes you can. Each phpBB3 post has a unique DOM node ID. That means you can change the attributes of individual posts through CSS, including completely suppressing the display of an individual post if you so desire.
Since both have the ability to display a post by a unique identifier, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is also true with phpBB2 and Invision.

Re: Hiding Posts
this is a good idea and the user could set a password if others wanted to view the post....
you can make like a game out of that....
one user makes clues and puts them in a password protected post and other users had to solve riddles to get to the final post witch could have a download or something

Re: Hiding Posts
Well, I don't really see the point in actually hiding posts except the reasons you stated. I'll just go ahead and vote Yes.
Re: Hiding Posts
It's a quick way of dealing with spammers instead of going through editing all the time. Still in favour of this
Re: Hiding Posts
voted YES also - I can think of a situation immediately where having that function would have saved me a shedload of work deleting posts.

Re: Hiding Posts
Hi, I started a new thread on this yesterday, didn't see this one going.
I'm really pleased so far with forumotion and all it offers. I will say, however, this is the first forum I've moderated/administrated that won't let you hide posts. This puts a real blow on the useability of the forum overall, because if the moderator edits a user's post to delete something violating the TOC the original message is lost forever, and it's a "he said she said" situation.
I'd be willing to pay for functionality, but I have to say I'm so very pleased with the forum so far. I do hope this issue gets resolved soon...it's a biggie.
