Hacking attempts
Hi,
I posted this previously and was advised to ban `uninvited` guest ip`s who were trying to hack into my private forum.
These ip`s are dynamic and change daily multiple times but the location remains the same.
I emailed the ip abuse@ address but have not received a reply back yet.
This morning the ip`s displayed as viewing forums whereas they could not access them previously.
I have amended the forum rules so that the invitation link not be passed on to uninvited guests.
Any further advice would be very welcome.

There is no point banning dynamic IP's.

Re: Hacking attempts
Even if your administration panel shows guests are viewing forums does not mean they see the topics.

Yes I appreciate that but did not want them viewing the forums for very good reasons.
The location postcode is always the same.

Re: Hacking attempts
When these guests come, are they listed on the homepage as guests or bots?

They should not be able to view forums without being logged in , I can`t.

Re: Hacking attempts
I know, so if your administration panel shows they are viewing forums, they are exactly seeing a blank page that says you do not have permission to view this page or something like that.

No unfortunately,
When they are viewing forums, they are seeing the registration page only.
When they are viewing individually named forums they have to be logged in, and the panel is now showing them viewing specific forums.

Thank you.
I think they hacked my account and I have changed the password twice today.
They have appeared yet again, but are unable to view individual forums YET?
What else can I do ?

Re: Hacking attempts
I would change my email address on the forum if you have another email address.

Re: Hacking attempts
Hello,
I don't see this as an hacking attempt. If guest are viewing the forum and you have your permissions set up right you shouldn't worry. If everything is locked up for members and up. Guest only see login page. It will say viewing forum, but that is normal.

Hi,
They are definitely getting in via my account somehow despite my changing the password and email.
The panel is showing them everywhere i am, ie individual forums and not viewing the forum index etc.

Re: Hacking attempts
Few factors. Is the guest have the same IP? Sometimes you show up twice or three times. This is an error in the system. I really don't see a problem here.

Hi MIO022,
As MrMario has said, there is no problem so far. If your forum security is set up right, then you have nothing to worry about as long as these guests have not logged into your founding account, registered, or even posted.
They are probably simply seeing your board. Although your admin panel shows they are viewing specific forums, the guest should be seeing a login request

Yes that`s true each member is assigned a [guest] IP along with their own numbering from 31 (last 2 digits) upwards depending upon the number of visits posts read etc.
This is how I know the guest hacked in because they were given a separate guest ip along with their own also.

I mean your IP. I'm pretty sure everything is ok for the four time now.
