Solved Change up Repution button

Post by Suuki on December 3rd 2011, 10:56 pm

I love the idea of the reputation button and I have been using it for a while, there is just a few things I kinda.....hate. -___-

Back at my Forumotion forum everyone is nice to each other and all, and the idea of reducing someones points sounds...evil...

I don't really want an option of reducing points.

Can I do this? Also instead of the vote bar, I would just want a small plus sign that appears under the plus reputation (apple) symbol.

So basically you like someones post so you give them an apple (plus reputation) and so the person that made the post knows that someone gave him/her an apple, there would be a Plus sign under the positive apple. Instead of the vote meter.

Sorry if it is confusing, here is a link to a topic so you see how my reputation is set up. It is the apples at the sides of posts.
----- (im using this topic because someone trolled and started removing apples :< )
(There are apple symbols on top and bottom of the vote meter, but you can't see it unless registered, so don't worry bout that.)

here is the plus sign i want.

I'll check that out, but what I want seems kinda like the plus 1 on here. What is that? =o

Anyway, I just tried out the link and it is wonderful! How can I have it like the plus 1 system so it shows how many people liked it?

and what is plus 1? O.o

Do you mean "Plus 1 Total: 82" on forumotion? It's how many times a person gave you a + Wink

The code that the support forum uses is not a Forumotion code.

Why do you care about "reputation" and "Points" for your members? What is the point in that? This is what I have on my forum and its all I have that remotely relates to this subject, Its a "Friends and Foes" feature that allows a member to "ignore" someone. So if someone puts another person on there "Foes" list they can no longer read there posts and will never receive a Private Message from them. But I'm happy to say no one is using that feature on my forum. Everyone gets along.

The "reputation" and "Points" thing is ridiculous in my opinion. Its a self-serving and useless feature that does no good but to aggravate people. Who cares about points? Why would anyone care about "reputation" and "Points"??

Points for what? being good?? lmao

Points for liking someones posts, like saying Thank you. Or kinda like the "Like" Button on Facebook. I have made good of this feature by having people earn apples..and about points, that is my currency, it is how the shops run and how people receive items and rewards. Smile

About it not working on phpBB2, is there a way to make it work? And is it the same as Forumotion?

Well I don't like the whole idea of the thing. It seems like a "popularity race" and that turns me off. It promotes people to get points for good behavior and not say what they really want to, when on a general discussion forum like mine would not be a good thing. On my forum People speak there minds and are not subject to someones opinion with bad points or negative Reputation added against them. That is NOT fair and a cop out to do that to someone. I will never implement that feature on my forum. I disapprove of it.

I am getting rid of "negative" votes to avoid issues.

Anyone can make this work on phpBB2?

Reputation is a good way to show the community that you are are trustworthy/reliable person. For example if I go to a forum for help and I get a user helping me that doesn't have a reputation or even a negative reputation I know that I will take what he has to say with a grain of salt.

By the way I am wondering the same thing, I do kind of like how the reputation system is set up. Might as well show us how to do it because if FM can do it then we should also be able to do it. Don't display something that others can't do.

Sorry the code won't be given out. ~ MrMario

I won't necessarily need the support forums code, but because you guys don't wish to give out yours, can someone help me get it...or make it? Or if there is something similar. This is a support forum, and you guys hogging the code is like saying you don't want us to have better Forums? I thought that was what Forumotion was about.

The code used for the reputation button here is a modified version of this:

http://www.diondesigns.org/t1338-

As long as you don't have a phpBB2 board, that should be all you need. If you have a phpBB2 board, then you may as well stop asking about the feature because the code used here is not compatible with phpBB2. Little is these days...Razz

Kind of lame that you would host something and not help others achieve that same effect. Although I won't have a seizure over it so not that big of a deal to me.

I would say this is solved.
