Spam PM From Non-Member Of Forum
Today I received a spam PM, at my forum, from a SEO spruiker. The problem is that guests are not supposed to be able access the PM area to even send one. My security is set so that only members with a minimum of 2 posts (now upped to 3) may send PMs.
The only buttons visible to guests, in our Navbar, are Home, FAQ, Register & Log In. So how did they manage to send me a PM?? How can I make my forum even more secure?? All security settings are Forumotion default, such as disallowing links, etc, for seven days after joining. "Unauthorize unofficial forms to post messages and private messages on the forum" is also marked Yes.
I have deleted this PM as a security measure but it was Organic SEO & was signed Marie Wilson. This is the first time this has happened to me & is very puzzling.

More likely they use the Contact link in your footer.

Would it arrive as a PM?? If so how can I prevent this happening again??

slg is right
Do you remember if the PM Title begain with this: [CONTACT]
If it did, that means it was sent via the Contact link. You can choose options for Contact in the Admin Panel. You can choose to make it send to email, sent via PM, and also choose for it to send to Admins, or Moderators, etc. I'm pretty sure you can also opt to turn it off too.

Re: Spam PM From Non-Member Of Forum
Many thanks Empire_1 & slg.
Yes, it did have [Contact} in the front of it. This was the first time this has happened to me in more than 2 years, so I did not realise what it was.
Yes, you can opt out of Contact so that is what I shall do.
Many thanks to you both, for your very prompt response.
This is now solved.
