Disallow editing of posts after certain time period

Post by Master Marc on December 19th 2011, 5:42 pm

I suggest members should be disallowed to edit a post after a certain time period.

This post talks for itself: http://help.forumotion.com/t100743-how-will-i-correct-the-wrong-domain-i-bought-today#659604
Although, a mod might clean up the spam leaving no evidence of member editing their post after the topic was inactive.

Make sure to take a look at the "posted date" and the "edited date", Wink

I agree with you for the reason you provided but I also disagree as we need to be able to

-Change topics to solved
-be able to edit our presentations on the promotion section
-add any additional information

and probably more

Although your point is certainly valid, it also destroys our options of doing the above

Sorry bud, I have to vote against this one Shocked

You see, it doesn't matter if the post is edited in the long run, as any topic that hasn't been replied to, in I think 1 month, is automatically sent to the trash. Not too long.
However, your point is valid.

I like to edit my posts after a few mins, or hours if I notice something is wrong, or need to correct something, even as minor as spelling.

The hardest part of implementing this however, is how long is acceptable? 5 days, 5 hours, 5 minutes?
You get the point Razz

No. no. NO. Definitely against this. if you don't want members to edit out things, a mod should be added that allows staff members to see the post history. if a post is edited a moderator can see all the edits made. I know there is a mod for this in phpBB

Nope.

If we do this, then others won't be able to add the solve icon or edit their post if they need to add more information about a problem or question and edit the presentations they post.
