Solved Username unavalible... But it is!

Post by BellatrixVampite December 24th 2011, 10:30 pm

I only have 2 members on my site, since we started early December. I invited my first member to join, but the first username they tried was "already in use" when I knew that it was not. Then, when I tried to create a test account, the first username i put in for registration did not work because it was "already in use" when I know that it is not. I am worried this may be driving away potential members of my site, and I want to know if anyone knows how I can fix this. Mad ...

*Solved - thanks to all who helped out, turns out my forum is a little... challenging. But thanks to everyone!*

I have tried both and when I tried to create another test account it came up with the same thing. Thanks both for trying, but it appears it hasn't worked.

I have looked through all the settings. The usernames I try are stuff like Testing, Aimee and Hellokitty (something random to test it) but they are all "Unavalible". Its not in the censored words or anything like that (who would censor hellokitty? o.o ) so I really don't know why it is happening.

Typo. Spankers is quite right, the url is http://vampite.formotion.co.uk/ - it's the same as the link to my forum. If you click on me and go to the profile, there is a link there.
Sorry for the confusion.

I can see a username Aimee.
Also, i did not get testing as a username but when i tried testing1 it was available to me.

Check for inactive users here again.

yes, I know there is a user Aimee - that is the test account that I renamed to fit a character. I know testing1 is avalible, but testing isn't when there is no user with the name. As I have already said, there are no inactive users.

Sorry, I don't feel comfortable with giving admin rights to someone I do not know.

I think this one worked for me. I tried one of the names that didnt work for one of my members and it worked after changing the "spam names" setting to NO.

Just starting out so hopefully it is resolved.

You need to do this below

Administration Panel --> Users & Usergroups --> Users --> Inactive Users and Check there.

OR (Most Likely this)

General --> Security --> Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames : No

If it's not that and if you'll allow me I'll go in and see if you've done it right, but if not that's fine. I'd try as Sanket said though, let him have Admin Access. He's staff here and there's no reason he'd do anything to your website. He has his own website. Pretty nice to, so he wouldn't do nothing to yours. He's helped me several times to.

I tried a few things, which did not work according to what i expected. When we change the usernames it takes up testing & hellokitty. But, when i try to register it, it does not work.

I will forward this to The Godfather.

Unauthorize subscriptions made with the most commonly used spam usernames. : No

That has done the trick. So you can decide whether you want to avoid those usernames & be safe.

Okay... thanks. I don't really get how hellokitty is a spam name, though... lol.
