Is there a way to deter lurkers from your website?
I've read through the FAQ's and couldn't find an answer. I'm looking for two answers to questions, 1. Is there a way to make sure new members do an introduction on a page and then automatically have them added as members once they have done an introduction? 2. Is there a way that I can alter my website so only members can read a new thread? I've seen some websites that allow anyone to read the first post on a thread. But only members could log in and read any other posts in reply to that particular thread.

It is all in setting your forum permissions.
If you want to have members introduce themselves first.
Then that is only board you want them to have accesses to when they first join.
So be sure all other forum permissions are set for them not to post, You can always have it to where they can view and read just can not post until they are in a members group..
Now create a group called members, and select the auto subscribe to one post.
You will then have to go through all your forum permissions and set them as yo wish for that group, So once they post on the introduction board, they will automatically be added to the members group and have permissions to all the forums you grant accesses to for that group.
Once again it will all be in setting your permissions and adding a members group as well.
