The log in page could be everything.. You need to tell us if it's the normal forum page or a html page.
Maybe posting your forum link would make it clear.
For the normal forum, you need to go to: Admin Panel -> 'advanced' -> Modules -> Forum widget management -> drag the "news" (one of the blue boxes below) in one of the fields next to "Your forum content will be here."

To write your own news, you just need to create your own widget.
Admin Panel -> 'advanced' -> Modules -> Forum widget management -> "Create a widget"
In "Widget source" you've to write your code in.
It can be a simple text like:

Code:: <html> <body> <b>Hi members!</b><br /> How are you? etc... </body> </html>

Or just a text. After you saved the widget, you need to click on "personal widgets" and then you just drag your own widget into the box.
