I don't have spellcheck on my browser, I am on Firefox and it doesn't seem to show on there, luckily I can spell. When doing a reply on a thread, I cannot see how having spell check on the browser can help anyway as it wouldn't show, or am I wrong?

A spell checker shows in all the message input boxes, so yes it would work. In fact, I've got a spell checker on the latest version of Firefox. Have you upgraded to the latest version?

In the options menu > in advanced > 'check my spelling as I type'
Tick that.

Well I don't have an options menu on the browser, I know with Internet Explorer you do, but Firefox hasn't got one. I still can't see how having spellcheck on the browser can help when posting, it wouldn't spellcheck a post would it

Lol of course firefox has an options menu (all browsers do). You can access it by clicking the orange button in the top left.

And a browsers spell check settings will check your spelling just as word does whenever you type any input into textareas or input fields.

Have got someone checking it out to see if it works. I have read the info re the smilies but it doesn't tell you how to get them from the smilie site onto the forum, what code would you use, and where would it actually go. I have found many smilies, but how to get them where I want them???

Well, first you'll need to either download the image from the site and then upload it to an image hosting site OR if the site allows, to grab the direct link to the image and use it in the admin panel. Smile

I've been trying to use the code provided in the box where you go to put a new smiley but it wants something in the browse box and I'm not sure how to proceed with that. Sad

In the admin it gives you the option to add smileys, you click on that and 3 boxes come up, the first one I put the img code in, the second the smiley name and the 3rd says browse, I assume I am supposed to put the smileys on my desktop, but if I am putting an img code in surely I don't need them on my desktop, can't see how to get them on there anyway.
Got someone who tried the spellcheck/browser idea, and it doesn't work, they have deliberately mispelled a post and nothing has been corrected

Solved Re: Spellcheck on reply box

Post by LGforum on February 6th 2012, 11:26 pm

1. The spellcheck doesn't correct your spelling. It checks it, just like word does. When typing you'll see red lines underneath words which are spelt wrong.

2. With smilies, the first box is the box where you put the code that you want for that smiley to show up in posts with. For exmaple: ': )'
You need to save the cmiley image to your computer, anywhere. Then click browse and choose the correct smiley.

You got it backwards.

First box you need to put slimy. code. Example ; ) <= without the space
Second box: Name of it
Third upload the smile from computer. No way to upload via link.

I've never ever had to use the spellcheck facility, so am ignorant of how it would work, will pass the word back about red underlining, but how would you know what the correct spelling was you wouldn't spell it wrongly if you knew the right way to spell it!!! One of our members has come up with this http://www.iespell.com/ which looks handy.
I am getting totally confused about the ruddy smiley saga, will study it again, but how do I get the smiley onto my desktop to save it, that is the bit I can't get Mad
