In progress Forum Announcements Cut Off

Post by Raptor91 on February 7th 2012, 9:24 pm

My forum announcements are cut off at the right end of the announcement. Notice how the text is cut off on the right side of the announcement in the picture below. I believe to fix the problem I need to enable word wrapping but I am not sure how to do so and I am not sure if that is the actual problem. I am using Invision. Here is the link to my forum: www.lifedatabase.org/forum

As you can see from the pictures below, the text is being cut off.

How do I fix this problem so the text will wrap instead of being cut off?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the suggestions but I really need to have the text wrap. Do you know how to do it or can you forward me to someone that knows how to do it?

Where would I add this in the CSS?

That shouldn't be happening. But you might try adding this tag after "Feb 12th" of the text so the text will break into two lines.
Code:
<br>

So it will look like this:

The role play game scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 11th has been moved to Feb 12th.
Sorry for any inconveniences.

I use Google Chrome as my main browser. I have also tested Internet Explorer and I just tested it on my cell phone using Safari. The problem is present in all of the browsers.

I just added more text to the announcement so you can see it is cut off at the end. My resolution is 1920x1080 so I don't see it that often but many of my members see the text cut off because they have a smaller resolution. The problem is present on mobile devices too because of the small resolution. I believe text warping would solve the problem.

I have done that in the past but I'm looking for a permanent solution so I do not have to add <br> anymore. Also if I don't put the <br> in the right place the text is still cut off for some people.

Well I can understand you wanting a permanent solution I would too. That can be fixed I'm sure, one of these experts will show you how. That looks like a template you uploaded so its probably a setting that needs to be changed in the CSS file.

Why would you need to change it in the CCS? You are able to add html code to the forum announcements so why not just use the <br /> code to make the line Question

Hi-

In your homepage message, try adding this code:
Code:
<div style="height:120px;width:80%;overflow:auto;">[YOUR DATA HERE]</div>

This will wrap your message in a box that will allow it to be scrolled if it's too much. Hope this helps!

Your code works but that's not what I'm looking for. I do not want a scroll bar, I just want the text to wrap. Also when I use that code on my website, the text does not wrap, it just adds a scroll bar. When I use the code on another website, the text wraps at 80% and it does not have a scroll bar. I don't get it. Do you think it is a problem with the CSS?
