In progress where has my theme changer gone???

Post by spirit09 on February 27th 2012, 10:27 pm

Hello

I had alot of help from a member (cannot remember who) that installed a theme changer form me - I had 6/7 different themes and my members were really pleased.

Now I have a member that NEEDS theme changer as they are registered blind and the black background is no good - so I give her the option and it is not there!!

Please could someone be kind enough to help me reinstall it or tell me where it has gone.....

Many Thanks

EDIT:

I have just found the script on HTML page management - so what has changed for me not to see it on the main forum centre under the banner please:

Code:
var type = getCookie('template1');
var temsel = document.getElementById('temsel');
temsel.innerHTML ='<select onchange="changeskin(this.options[this.selectedIndex].value);window.location.reload();"><option> Theme Changer.. </option><option value="valeur1">1, black stars </option><option value="valeur2"> 2, Pale Green and White</option><option value="valeur3"> 3, Orange </option><option value="valeur4"> 4, Silver</option><option value="valeur5">5, Red on Pink</option><option value="valeur6"> 6, Pastel</option><option value="valeur7"> 7, Yellow</option><option value="valeur8"> 8, Blue and White</option></select>';

if (type == 'valeur1')
{
   document.write('<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.ourspiritualhome.com/161381-ltr.css">');
}
else if (type == 'valeur2')

Hi,

Please be patient, we do not have very many coders on the forum, and I am not fantastic myself Wink

However, as I made the tutorial for the theme changer, I proceed and alert one of my collegues to see if he can help out. Smile

First, can I ask where on your forum is it usually located, as I cannot locate it on the forum in your profile?

Also, is ayone else, including yourself, not seeing it, and if their not seeing it, did it revert to the default black?

Thank you Darren

No one can see it now, and it was located in the centre just under the banner - a drop down called theme changer...

Do you have a code with the link to the HTML page in the site description?

Hi Sig

I have just looked and there is nothing in site description - where has that gone??? there must have been changes that have messed things up....

so if I copy the link to that page and paste it to the site description that should solve it?

EDIT:

have just noticed when I click preview on the HTML page I get an about blank white page...so how do I get a link code...

This is what should be in the site description:

Code:
<script type=text/javascript src=http://zootycoonwildlife.aforumfree.com/h1-themechanger></script>

Replace this - http://zootycoonwildlife.aforumfree.com/h1-themechanger - with yours. The link is here: Administration Panel > Modules > HTML & JavaScript > HTML Management

ok done that and still not there - could it be because I have a big banner? if so can it be moved to under the nav bar in the middle....

EDIT

just as a side note - if I remove any part of the code that I have put in the site description - for example one of the < then the rest of the code appears where the theme changer should show - so what is going wrong for it not to appear?????/

No, the banner shouldn't be an issue, it is more then likely because the code link was removed, the changer disappeared.

The code Slg's provided wont work as it specifies only 2 types of languages, try this one instead Very Happy
Code:
<script src=/h1-></script>

The script is so short because it will automatically detect in's in your forum, and there's no need to use the name, it's just so everyone knows what the topic is.
This is the script I have going on my test forum.

Fyi Slg, the script has CSS, so unless your going to find a way to tell it that theres more then JS & text, that one isn't going to work Razz

Nope still not there - please help!! I dont mind if the drop down box moved to the bottom of the home page - I just want it back...

darren I am not sure what you mean when you say:

"The script is so short because it will automatically detect in's in your forum, and there's no need to use the name, it's just so everyone knows what the topic is."

slg, I think I know of the theme changing script you may be thinking of, all good mate Smile

Spirit, what I'm trying to say is why the code is so short, Ill try again, I've got a better grasp of things tonight, maybe I can explain it better now then the last time, wish me luck Razz

I try to shorten the URL of all scripts that go into the site desc, just works better.
The script automatically detects that it's coming from your forum, with, or without the url of your forum, plus it loads up a few milaseconds quicker, so you drop the domain, so it's just the "/h1-"

The h1- refers to the location on your forum it loads from.
Anything after the "-" is useless, just like it is adding the url of the forum, but it doesn't improve the loading time.

To the issue at hand.
Can you make sure the script is back in the site description:
Admin panel >> General > Forum/Config > Site Desc.

Otherwise,
Do you wish to edit the templates of your PHPBB2 forum, because Im sure the script works in the templates. I'ts been a while since Ive done template editing, and work with that specific code, but I do expect it to work in the template with the same link above Smile
Note, you do have to be in the founding account to do this.

Yes the code is still in the site description, I am the founder, but I use phpBB3 so cannot edit the template...

would it be better if someone was to help me from scratch rather than the mess that is here atm???

(I am willing to add a trusted member of staff to my staff for the purpose of sorting this out...)

A solution has been found: the HTML code had been changed/edited, because of this it did not work.

P.S. Glad that I could help with the skin changer issue.

should it not be the wysiwyg works by showing you what your post will look like without the coding so you would have

bold words showing as already bold not as [ b] bold words [ /b] (spaces added for effect)

Well that is not happening on my forum, and I have it set as default also...
