Hi,
meta description are verry important for our search engine rank.
http://techpatio.com/2009/blogging/seo/meta-description-important-web-html
http://webresultsblog.wordpress.com/2011/11/30/why-the-meta-description-tag-is-so-important/
But we can make a meta description only for our Homepage and portal.

I would, that we can make a meta description for all our HTML Pages and the Default Foromution Sites (Galery, FAQ,Memberlist, Register-Page..)
So our Sites are better in Google.

Hi,

I'm voting no - Why?

1 - some paged disallow bots to view it already, such as the registration & login page (why would u want them there?)

2 - Why make special SEO fields when all you have to do is tell DMoz & Google to view x link and everyone else will follow (Answers.com,yahoo,bing ect)

3 - It's QUALITY not QUANTITY when ranking Razz

Yes, Quality, and for quality you need a description. (yes, pages who are disallow by bots neednt a description thats right) but for our HTML Pages whe should make a Description.

For HTML Pages, you can of cause add your own meta tags Very Happy
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp
I assume when you write it, you do have your own head tags.
I'm pretty sure the bots have no-follow on most pages such as the registration, FAQ, gallery, member list and so forth.

Number 1:
w3Schools needs closed down as it's a bunch of tripe and showcases horrendous and ill-fated uses for everything!

Number 2:
Your links are way outdated, Google & Bing both have changed algorithms since your links were posted, so no longer needs a minimum and maximum amount of data in order to optimize SEO.

Number 3:
All you need is 'Title', 'Description' and if you really, really feel the need add a few 'Keywords'

Number 4:
In google when you search for this stuff, go to the left and change the timeline to 'Past year' Wink

Not really much of a master these days Wink

But yeah, a lot has changed and unfortunately 'SEO Experts' have no idea how to adapt.

One example is 'Site Health' and 'Link Contamination' both of which require no user input and automatically check that your website is posting quality content and that your links are not re-directing users to spam affiliations.

Pretty neat and handy service for legitimate websites. Very Happy

So I voted NO because for something so simple, it's better to control it manually Very Happy

But, Placehold, you said by your self, that the Description is important.

And write the Meta Description in the Contect, ist an error for W3C Validor and Google doesnt see tat.

@marvin, I only said 'All you need is' .. it's not entirely important because Google (amongst other search engines) will pull a description from the header text or 'content' of the page if a description isn't specified.

All I'm saying is, it's better to self manage and manually maintain opposed to having a default description being pushed to a search engine.

A good SEO strategy is to take USERS into a consideration and to personalise the description to the users to make it easier for them to find the site thus boosting the user base and site traffic.

By using a default engine to generate the description etc you're only going to end up with system based description and tags wich may not make sense or hit your target audience.

In short:
It's better to manually do this than have a system do it for you.

A better idea would be to have a section to manually manage each page's details and tags. (check cloudflare's apps management page)
