Banning an IP

I thought I knew how to ban an IP, but the thing is, I went to ban a member then went to banning his IP...but when I used the search user IP address and put in the name, then pressed search, there's no IP address. I mean, the results were like this:

DavidBirm --NOTHING--


how am I supposed to ban the IP address now??

he didn't make a post, and he's not online

I'm sorry but in this scenario, it isn't possible, as you have listed the only 2 ways to get an IP address, there's no secret to obtaining it from someone who hasn't posted or been online.
