In progress When to worry

Post by mikeydt1 Fri Apr 06 2012, 08:30

for over a year i have been running a forum. over that time i have had battles with some members splitting and starting their own forum which i think ended for reasons unknown. although i have had some tough times with the help of a loyal friend we managed to get the forum up and running and just celebrated our forum birthday.

any way the other day a new member came on posting, this members first posting seemed to be okay but then seemed to drift on the verge of been vulgar so i moderated the post and sent them a warning message.

after doing a quick background check on the user name i found they had come from a website called talkhealth.

after doing some research i was staggered by how many sub forums this website was creating. they claim to be linked to the NHS in the U.K and also linked to many health companies.

this morning i had a look and in total they have created up to 19 sub forums based on different health themes and it looks like this will be forever expanding.

the question is with a website creating such a large amount of forum themes should i be worried about them starting to muscle in like this or am i worrying for nothing.

at the moment they do seem to be taking on every one else's forum themes and i am slightly worried that my small forum could be washed out by their activities.

one other thing i found is that they seem to be operating and getting revenue by those who visit which at the moment run to 50p per visitor.

well looks like it is back to the drawing board.

Hi Mike,

After reading your post, I am not sure too sure on what the problem is. Are other forums threatening you?

In progress when to worry

hi base,

i had someone cross over from the other forum mentioned then the person posted something which wasn't within forum guidelines. on the other forum mentioned they seem to be posting in a reasonable fashion and when my friend who helps me had a look it did concern him as well.

i am monitoring the person and got someone else keeping an eye on things. i hate having to ban people but if the need arises then i will take the last resort.

i have spent many hours putting work in to my forum and just don't want to see it go to the wall.

probably just me worrying for nothing or perhaps i do have concerns,

You shouldn't be worrying if other forums are not posing a threat to you. However, if other forums are engaging in activity which disrespects our terms of service then you can report them: https://help.forumotion.com/t12330-complaint-against-a-forum-how-to

nedalm: that's up to the topic creator to decide, not you. Please avoid posting unnecessarily, thank you.
