Solved Help picking a forum type

Post by multiverse on April 12th 2012, 7:50 pm

hello there, i have not yet created a forum, but i will after getting whatever feedback here.

of the 4 type PhpBB2, PhpBB3, Invision, and PunBB which will afford me the ability to create various custom html blocks for either the portal or forum index borders? and do all have the ability to do something with ad support?

and i saw another domain connected to forumotion called darkbb. is that open up to anyone to create under and if so how?

thank you for your time.

PunBB and phpBB2 versions will give you full acces to the forumotion templates. Wink

And darkbb is just a sub-domain name, nothing else.

Hi, Hello

Note: you can always change the version of your forum Wink

Acp>>Display>>Skins>>Choose a theme>>Version.

With the Ads, you can't do anything. You need to buy credits, to remove them.

Despite template access PunBB and Phpbb2 will always be inferior to the more recent modern boards. PunBB and Phpbb2 will give you good customisation, but they will always load slower, and you'll never get as good features from them. Not to mention your board is then using ancient software that is neither used or even considered outside of free hosts, due to being so old and not up to scratch.

I think phpbb2 and punBB is great for beginners, but as you progress and learn more regarding HTML or JavaScript you'll realise.

darkbb is a sub-domain provided by Forumotion. When you create a forum, you will have the choice of selecting from a large range of sub-domains. You will see 'darkbb' listed then. Smile

Hello,

The 'darkbb' sub domain name has been removed a couple of months back, our pro admin has stated the reason:
Hi,

Due to the Mcafee issue it has been decided to not use this domain name anymore.
As we have 1,000+ other domain names available, we won't reactivate it to avoid further issues.
Instead, you can just use other subdomain names such as lightbb.com etc.

thank you regarding info on darkbb. however am i doing something wrong looking for domain names to make the forum under? not only not finding 1000+ options, but lightbb not one of them.

i'm wanting to look into the shorter domain options due to the forum name will be a bit longer.

Hi,

The majority of the .BB range has been removed due to serious issues with McAfee not being easily resolved, it has taken over 1 year and counting to have it resolved, to give you a indication of the seriousness of the issue from McAfee's perspective.

If you want a short .bb sub domain, there is a 'cinebb.com' at:
Admin panel >> General > Forum Address >> Order by categories, Art, culture, and it is one of the first few Smile

'Fanbb.net' also exists in the drop down box: Sports & Hobbies.

Otherwise, that's the shortest sub-domains, and the only 2 remaining BB range.

darren, are you saying after initial creation, i can change the domain name?

the only options i see are either under main forumotion site or hitskin in their dropdown. in fact, some domain names diff there. shortest i've seen is iftopic.com (which dont come up every time either)

You can change it after creating your forum.
Administration Panel > General > Forum > Forum Address
There are drop-down menus that list all the available address names.
