Solved phpbb3 - How to add a sidebar

Post by Made on April 19th 2012, 7:42 pm

Hi folks! I would appreciate it if someone can tell me how to add a sidebar like the one on the right in this forum, where I can put links, tweeters feeds and other information.

Thanks!

Solved Re: phpbb3 - How to add a sidebar

Thanks, Th1nK! I followed the instructions in the tutorial but the side bar didn't show. I clicked also set the "Display forum widgets" to Yes and still didn't work.

Anyhow, I was referring to a different thing. I would like to have a side bar but not with the widgets but more like a column in the table where I could insert whatever code I want I want, like a twitter feed, images, links, etc.

Can someone help me with that?

Thanks!

You can insert whatever you want on the side. You create a "Custom widget" for the side panel and add whatever you want it there. It doesn't have to be a widget is can be text or anything. They are HTML boxes. They can be as long as you want or short. If you just use one box keep adding breaks to make it longer if thats the way you want to do it. You need to follow the steps in that link above to get started.

Thanks, runaway. I learnt how to add a custom widget in that tutorial. The code provided in it is to the effect of allowing members to hide or show the side bar but it doesn't explain where or how should I add the code I want to put in them. Know what I mean? Thanks for your help Smile

I think I do, if you want to add content to it click the middle yellow button on top of the box, that is the "Edit" link.

Is that what you mean?

Hi, when I try to visit your forum, it says that it doesn't exist. Is that the correct link that you've provided us? Smile

Go to: Admin Panel>>Modules>>Forum widgets management>>

Scroll down until you see some widget categories,. There is a drop menu to choose a widget and the location (left or right)you want to put the widget in. It all can be added to your forum from there.

Mess around with it and learn how it works.

If that isn't your problem I really am missing what you mean. I can see your forum is blank on the left side, so you just need to go to widgets management and work it out. Add a widget and don't forget to "Save" your settings or nothing will show.
