Solved Members unable to change their passwords

Post by Brooksy118 on April 24th 2012, 6:57 pm

Members on our forum can't seem to change their passwords for some reason. When they try to, they get an error "The current password you supplied does not match the one stored in the database.".

I have tested it with my admin account, and also with my test account, and get the same error. I assume there should be a current password field as well as new password and confirm new password fields?

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance Smile

Hi! Hello

Changing passwords can be done easier on the profile of the user, if the error still persists, try resynchronizing your forum:

That is the same error, but these are just normal members wishing to change their passwords, it's not the founder password or anything.

I've just tried that, but it hasn't fixed it unfortunately. I want members to be able to change their own passwords, rather than me changing it for them, just keeps it more secure for them then. This is what they see under their profile:

Make sure their typing on all the required fields and also both the 'new password' and 'confirm password' field have the same characters in it. (Check caps, symbols etc.)

That's all fine, I think the problem is that they don't have the current password field, which is why it's giving the error that the password doesn't match the one stored in the database Confused

The first box is for the new password, and the second box (confirm) is for the old password.

I've just tried it, but that's not correct - both boxes are for the new password Smile

Hello!

I also experienced the problem, there seems to be the same issue about this from the past, I don't know if it was resolved:

But I will try to get this to the attention of our pro administrator, please be patient, since she'll be only back on Monday when she gets back to work.

You did not by any chance edit your profile_add_body template?

Since there should be a place to type in the current password?

If you did you should reset it on the red cross.

He had the same problem after adding FB Connect http://help.forumotion.com/t106104-members-can-t-change-their-account-passwords?highlight=change+password

No nothing's been edited recently at all, I did find the thread above after a search and had a read through, but nobody has edited anything, which is why I'm a bit confused by the problem. Do you know which line in the profile_add_body template shows the current password field, so I can check it?

Thanks

Solved Re: Members unable to change their passwords

Post by Jophy on April 29th 2012, 6:57 am

You will know if there's somebody changed it or someone has added some codes on it if there's a red cross(symbol for delete) beside profile_add_body template which shouldn't be edited.
(Admin Panel > Display > Templates (Profile) > profile_add_body > click the red cross(delete)

If you can't see any thing or you're sure that no one changed it, you'll have to wait until Monday for our administrator to see Wink

Hello,

You've changed a lot of templates of your forum... fufufu

I've tried to remove the modified template for the member's profile and the button to change the password worked very well.

So now you're free to change it or not, but you know where the problem comes from Wink

Thank you

They were changed by one of the site founders, when the forum was set up, but nothing's been edited recently I don't think. That's brilliant though, thank you, at least I know where the problem lies now! Very Happy

Is it the profile_add_body template that needs changing? Smile

Yes, it would've been the template was out dated, as their not automatically updated when they have been modified.
Can you check if the template profile_add_body is at default, as if it isn't, we can add in the few new lines (as I said above). If it is at default, then no problems, it's A-OK Wink

Post by Brooksy118 on May 1st 2012, 1:28 am

Aaaah I see! I've just had a look and below 'value' it says 'default value', is that what you mean? Sorry, I'm new to the templates, as I've not had to touch them before, with it being set up by our forum founder.

Just so I make sure I'm understanding correctly, if we were to select the red delete button for that template, that would reset it back to the default again, and then we would need to add any coding back in again?

To test it, could I edit the template and take a copy of all the coding, then delete it to test it and see what we lose/what changes, and then paste everything back in again, and everything would be back to as it currently is (with the existing problem again)? I can then ask the guy that originally changed it, to have a look at it!

Many thanks Smile

Experience is no issue Very Happy

if it's at default value, then it should be working fine, and it sounds like Leeloo deleted it when it was faulty.

Just check your profile to see if you have a button called 'Modify' next to the password, and when clicked it redirects to a page with 3 password options (Old, new, confirm).
If so, brilliant, it's working Very Happy

If not *insert dramatic music*

Which do you see next to the template:

1- Do you only see the: Edit
or
2- Edit Delete
or
3- Add Edit Delete

Ok I've just had a look at my profile, and I don't have a 'modify' button next to the password, I can still only see the new and confirm password fields.

If I look in the admin panel, next to the template I see number 2 above (the yellow modify symbol and the red delete symbol) Smile

Awesome, what I was thinking it was!

If you want to keep what you modified (It won't be the cause of the issue!) copy/paste the template to a word pad document
Then delete the template, which will restore it to default, and allow your members to modify their password via the profile themselves.
You can also re-add your changes once your ready, if you can recognize them, if you wish too.

I'm not sure off hand what the modifications are, so I can only tell u that it adds the modify button Wink

Solved Re: Members unable to change their passwords

Post by Brooksy118 on May 3rd 2012, 11:32 pm

I think I've got it now! I copied all the code from the template and pasted into word pad, then deleted the template, which did restore the modify button etc.

I then pasted the code back in, and the modify button etc disappeared again, so at le`ast I definitely know what the cause is - I've tried copying some of the code from the default template for the password fields and can sort of get parts of it to work, so it's just a case of working out which codes it is now!

I've asked the other admin who set it all up originally, if he could have a look, as he'll know what he changed hopefully!

Thanks for your help, you've all been great! Very Happy

On another note, the messages and FAQ's have disappeared tonight - you click on the button, but nothing is shown there. Could these also be related to the template?? They disappeared before I played around with the template earlier, so it's not anything I've changed!

I've managed to sort the messages and FAQ's, that was down to the templates too, but deleting them and then copying the code back into them sorted it.

It's odd that those as well as the profile_add_body template should suddenly start causing issues though - is there anything Forumotion wise that's likely to have been updated recently, which could have caused the issue?

The password issue still exists at the moment, but I've deleted the template temporarily to get around the issue until the admin who set them up can have a proper look Smile

No there isn't, and updates won't cause the templates to be on a bug, it's probably an administrator played around the codes causing the following issues on your forum.

That's what I wondered, but there's only myself and one other who have access. I haven't touched any of them (I didn't even know they existed til I posted here) and the other admin hasn't been on the site in months to change anything :/

Nevermind, least I know what the problems were, and how to sort out the other. Thanks for everybodys help, much appreciated! Mr. Green
