Help needed: Forumotion or phpBB forums?
Hi. I have had a forum on forumotion since 2008. In 2010, I bought a domain name and installed a new phpBB forum instead of a link to the previous forum. But, I have little knowledge on styling this phpBB forum altough it was pretty easy to get a new skin for the free forumotion.
My question is; Can I move all contents (posts and members) from my phpBB forum to my old, free forumotion?
If yes, I would really appreciate if you told me how to do that in a simple way
Other question is: do you recommend opening the old forum (forumotion) as a part of my website?
old forum: http://rileykeough.forums1.net/
new forum: http://simplyriley.com/forum/index.php
Thank you in advance!

Hi, you can't move anything, since you have no control of the data base. Create an HTML PAGE, and make it redirect to your old Forum.

Thanks for your reply. I was told by a forum designer that because it's my domain (simplyriley.com/forum) I have the control over the database and could move it altogether.. Do you think I was misinformed?
If I no longer want to use my forum extension of phpBB, can I hide it? if so, how?
Thanks once again

Hi,
Firstly, please do not hold a grudge against Forumotion as you had every right to use their service from the beginning.
I see no reason as to why you should of privately hosted your PHBB forum when you knew Forumotion existed.
It would've saved a lot of trouble to just pay to remove branding, ads, and purchase a domain.
So, you're out of luck if they cannot transfer your old forum (which is not hosted by forumotion) data to your Forumotion forum.

People who want more options, more control, more customization and better features should choose to host a phpbb forum on their own server, no doubt about it.

Hi,
Out of all this, Ill give you two pieces of important information:
1 - Per the Terms of Service: You cannot get any piece of your data from your forum, nor the database.
2- Your domain CAN be transfered vi an EEP Code
https://help.forumotion.com/t105014-remove-transfer-a-personalized-domain-name#684918
The transfer is not legally obligatory, it's a polite gesture forumotion does

I think you misunderstood. The link you gave me explains the other way round. Altough it's fantastic to know that Formuotion helps people this way!
I basically want to move my phpBB forum's content at simplyriley.com/forum to be moved into my beautiful, old forum at http://rileykeough.forums1.net/. Because I want to use my forumotion forum again, 2 years later, but I would very much like the content that was posted for the last 2 years to be put in Forumotion!
Is it possible? I really really appreciate your answers! Thank you!
