Facebook commenting style on Forumotion Forums? Empty Facebook commenting style on Forumotion Forums?

Post by DarkDemon May 8th 2012, 9:24 am

Hello, I found the commenting Coding for the Facebook style of Commenting https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments/ , yet I am having a hard time putting it where I want. I want to be able to put it on the main profile page when you view someones profile. Also, I want to put it on the main "News" posts that appear on the portal page from the "News" Widget. So that when you comment it will link back to your profile on my site.

Also with this Facebook style of commenting. I have been trying to figure out how it will just allow the members on my site show their profiles instead of their Official facebook profiles.

If anyone can give a hand in on this it would really be great to have facebook style of commenting under profiles and the main news posts on the portal page.

Thanks,
Andrew

you are only going to be able to use one url of what page the comment box is on. So there is no way your going to be able to get every member a separate comment box for their profile page.

You may be better off getting a live stream thing like this.

Other then that you should get a facebook developers account and get your ID and secret pin, This way you can always go in and create new things for various pages or templates you may add them to, Most of the stuff would only be used for like html pages, unless you had something designated to the portal or homepage index.

Oh and if you are planing putting this live stream thing, It will have to be placed in the profile template using phpbb2 or punbb, I would have to fiddle with it to see where the best place would be to fit it.

Thanks for the Reply Kirk.

I seen what you did but do you know what or how I could get a better comment style of System within the main Profile pages? It doesn't have to be Facebook. I am just looking for a style similar to Facebooks. I am aware of the style of Visitor Message that the Profile already offers, but I want it to show on your profile page stating that you wrote it there and what time, so when the other person replies it appears on yours as well.

I am trying to find someone to make a complete new Profile system for me in general but haven't found anyone yet. I really dislike the Forumotion profile pages. They look so plain and just don't have a social networking style of feel too it. That is what I am going for. If it were like HTML I could do it myself but I am not the best at CSS or even HTML lol.

Something Like this. I just made a Image of it instead so you could see.

Yeah there are not even templates to edit anymore.
Forumotion changed a lot with he templates so they are not like they used to be. I was thinking you can edit the templates, but i do not know what templates part for the main profile page members can view in.. it's not in with the profile templates, they are just so you can edit your profile setting etc...

So all you can really do is set up some advanced profile fields..
I am going to have to test a few things.

I was going to suggest using http://intensedebate.com/, But it will not be any good if there is no way to add it in your profile page/tempate. So i am going to have to try to figure out where that is now.. this is the second template i cam across like this since yesderday.

It seems the best place to use things like the facebook comments or intense debate would be to have them on html pages, or in your portal center of the page.

Well, I have used Forumotion for quite some time now and you would think they would start updating their templates and things to keep up with other competitors out there? Like since Facebook and Twitter had become famous, you would think they would say hmm.. this profile style that they have seems to be working haha lets take the time and do it for our websites to increase the use of our systems over others! lol

Just my thoughts. Yes, I looked through the CSS coding area but under Profile it doesn't give the Templates page so I am unable to actually change anything, otherwise I would have toyed with it already.

Haven't other members of Forumotion asked for a newer style of template like such? Also why isn't the profile page able to be changed?
