504 Gateway Error
Since Saturday (5th May), I seem to be the only person on my forum who is continually getting the 504 Gateway Error and I obviously can't access my site.
Its hit and miss, but only from my personal laptop and phone. When I use my work PC, I can access the forum fine, but can barely get it away from work. I find it odd that I'm the only person within the UK that's getting the problem. If its a server issue, you would expect others to be experiencing it.
Can you offer any ideas of help. Thank you.

Re: 504 Gateway Error
I've checked the thread and to be honest, I don't think its offering me a solution.
I'm not an AOL user and the situation is not a temporary one. I have repeatedly got the HTTP Error 504: Gateway Timeout message on a daily basis since last Saturday. This means that I cannot access the forum that I run, I can't administer it, and I can't contribute with posts. On the rare occasions that I do get into it, I can type a post but lose it because once I hit "send", the gateway error appears.
As I said, I can access the forum fine from my work's PC, and no other member on my forum is experiencing this problem.
Can anyone offer any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi,
Can you try clearing your cache?:

Also, what browser are you using? Have you tried other browsers? (Google Chrome or Firefox)

Re: 504 Gateway Error
I've now cleaned my cache, I loaded Firefox and Safari (was using Chrome as my browser), but both these browsers cannot connect with my forum.
Its very frustrating as my forum is the ONLY website that I cannot reach over the internet.
Domain name is www.therafateers.com but its almost impossible for me to access it. Again, I am the only person with this problem. Any more suggestins from anyone??

Re: 504 Gateway Error
Hello,
Have you tried contacting your internet provider about this?
I will consult/forward your problem to our pro admin(Leeloo) to look at, please wait until Monday when she gets back to work. Thank you.

Re: 504 Gateway Error
Hi,
if your Service Provider is AOL, there's currently a known issue caused by something on AOL's servers that prevents access to a few particular sites, I've heard they are looking into it.
If not, progress:
This could be a DNS Resolver issue.
If your using Windows 7 or XP I know these commands will work, if your using Windows Vista, I can do some research, but am pretty sure the commands are the same.
Go to your start bar, then click on run, type in 'cmd'
In the black box type in the following -- DO NOT COPY PASTE!!!
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renewl
Now try to access your forum.
if there's still no progress lets further test your connection
Type in ping www.therafateers.com again, you can't copy/paste
You should expect a result of 100% loss
Im somehow accessing your forum with a 100% loss.
Can I ask where did you get your domain from, and what your subdomain address was? as in the address u got for free before changing tot he domain.
Also, what happens when u try to access your forum via the subdomain, I'd guess the same connection error.

Re: 504 Gateway Error
Hi,
Thanks for trying to help me.
I'm really not computer literate, but I've had a go. I'm on Windows Vista, but I opened a Command Prompt box which is all black, and says
C:\Users\wooffie> ... I then added ipconfig/renewl after the > pressed return and it comes up with
Error: unrecognized or incomplete command line
When I do
C:\Users\wooffie>ipconfig/renewl
It says
Error: unrecognized or incomplete command line
Then USAGE: and a whole load of computer speak ...
Sorry, but I really don't know what to do here.
Re. my domain name, I bought credits in the admin. facility and did it from there.
I've tried getting into my forum from the old therafateers.forumotion.co.uk and there is an odd occasion I can get access, but then when I try to post, I get the 504 Gateway error message. I'm also a member of another Forumotion forum and got the 504 Gateway error when trying to access that too. It just seems that I individually am having issues with these forums.
Any more ideas as I am the creator of my forum and do all the admin, and equally, its giving me issues if I can't take part in my own time from home. Thank you.

Re: 504 Gateway Error
Try doing this.
If that doesn't work. Try accessing the site via Anonymouse.org
Start>Run
In the window that comes up type in the little box 'cmd'
then 'enter'
A window will pop up, type in
'ipconfig/flushdns'
then 'enter' again
It will report back that it has 'successfully flushed the DNS resolver cache'.
If that doesn't work. Try accessing the site via Anonymouse.org

Re: 504 Gateway Error
In this case, I do think it is your internet provider.
BUT: There could also be a system failure in your router (if you use one or more).
Try restarting your router(s) and see if you will now be granted access.
Otherwise, it can be Windows Vista.
I also still use Vista (soon W7 or W8) and also have stupid problems like these, in sudden they sometimes dissapear.
But most of the time, my top solution works here.

Re: 504 Gateway Error
Thank you for help.
Now this may be totally unrelated, but on the one time I was successful in getting into my forum via the therafateers.forumotion.co.uk domain yesterday, I went into the admin. area and there was a notification that my .com domain name was due for renewal. I went through the steps for renewal and since then, I have had no trouble getting into my forum last night, and it seems to be working OK again tonight.
I'll save your advice should it happen again, but my internet provider is Vodaphone for my laptop but Talkmobile for my phone, and yet I couldn't access via either.
Thanks again, and I hope I can continue to get into my forum.
