In progress Abusive poster banned, reports administrator for abuse

Post by justice4jane622 on June 16th 2012, 9:09 pm

Our forum has an abusive poster who constantly ignores the rules. We have banned him several times but he keeps coming back under new IP addresses. We are on the verge of reporting him to his local police department for cyberstalking. Now he has reported us to forumotion for an abuse of forum rules, which is bogus. What do we do to get rid of this pest permanently and stop him for reporting us for non-existent abuses?

Reporting a user to the police? lol.

Anyways, no way to stop them.

Wait for the user to get back, then just place their account in a restricted group with no permissions.

When you say that the member is reporting you to Forumotion, do you mean you are getting a message on the first page of the administration panel from Forumotion or an abuse report on the last page (Misc.)?

If it is an abuse report, the administrator of the forum only sees it not Forumotion. If it is a fake report send it to the done abuses section.

Yea, just restrict that user from doing anything. He' s probably changing his IP address Or he knows how to hack. Only way for an IP to change is if the internet changes. Meh, let him be and restrict him. He'll get bored and stop eventually o.o

No, he probably uses proxies.

Forumotion allows host name blocking, just block certain hosting proxy sites, etc.

Hi,

justice4jane622 bunch of IP's are dynamic, so he doesn't even need to use proxys since his IP is probably dynamic, and changes every 24h cca, or any time he resets his rooter.

The easiest thing to do would be to go to AP > Users and groups > Account activation > User and every time he registers he'll have to use a valid email so he'll get tired of it.

As SLG explained, if a member only pressed Report the abuse button that report comes only to you and FM has nothing to do with it. So all you need to do is move it to done abuses and let him have his fun, he'll get tired of it.

Even if he reported you or your forum to FM VIA litigation tool, FM will not do anything to you unless you are breaking their terms of service. Simply don't worry about things like that.

If you still think reporting him is neccesarry, if he is posting from his IP adress, you can file an abuse to his internet provider on it's officiall page. That would be the easiest way.

But I'd simply let it go.

Nera.

Yes, we're getting a message on the first page of the admin panel of our site. So he's reporting to us that we are "abusing" him and not to help.forumotion.com? So we just send it to done abuses section. So then, he can't shut us down by making fake abuse reports, correct?

Is the message on the first page still there and have a pink background and have a date to fix your forum before it is deleted?

Or was it a message saying that you have reported abuses?

If it is the last one, you can just move it to the done abuses tab.

The message said that you have reported abuses and we did move it into the done abuses tab.

Newbies here, where do we go in admin panel to block certain proxy hosts? Aren't there dozens of those?

To restrict his permissions, is that under AP>users & groups>username>modifyuser>special admin-only> then select 'no' for user is active?
Is that what is meant by "restricting his permissions" or some other way?

In activation, we just changed the activation by user to activation by administrator so we could see if the account was from a proxy server. But does this mean that the would be member doesn't have to give an email account as not needed for activation?

Hi,

If you wish to report him to your Local Law Authorities, you may do so, however, it may take some time to take appropriate action, as they need a warrant for French Servers.

If you have anything in the "Abuses" tab in the admin panel, you have NOTHING to worry about, he has NOT reported it to ForuMotion.com's legal department, only to you, the Administrator.

You cannot block proxy host names, ForuMotion already disallows the ability of logging in via known proxies.
