Portal problems...!
I made a portal and set it to my homepage and it works fine - except that when you log in from the portal it automaticly sends you to the forum page - is there anyway to change that.
also , one of my members is complaining that she can't log in anymore , she says she went to the forum and got to the regular forum page (she was logged in) then wanting to see the portal , she pushed the button in the menu and it logged her out and now she can't log in again - she tried having a new password sent - I tried changing it for her... nothing works! and she's the only member I have contact with outside of the forum - I have NO idea if any of my other members are having problems logging in...
HELP PLEASE!

Re: Portal problems...!
When you log in it goes to the forums index/forums page by default..
Thats just how it works and i do not know of a way to redirect to the portal.
It may be possible but i am not sure of a way to do it?
As far as you member having problems logging in?
Is she getting a error message or something?
Ask her to get a screen shot of whats happening, or you can try to temporarily change her pass and log in to see what she is seeing and then get a screen shot.. Once the problem is sorted, just give her the pass you created and then she can change it back to whatever she wants once she is logged in.
Oh be sure she is allow third party cookies on her browser to.
That may be what it is?

Re: Portal problems...!
I tried logging into her account and had no problems , but when I logged out again she stayed online - and she says that it says shes logged in she just sees everything like shes not...
btw there doesn't seem to be a problem with the other users.

Re: Portal problems...!
So your saying you log in as her and it works fine, you get on the forum.
But when you log out it still says she is logged in?
So then she cant log in because it is basically like she is logged in but she is not.
This dont make sense, because if it is appearing as her being logged in already, then how where you able to log in??? LOL
Odd confirm this is correct, it will have to be passed on to a pro-admin because i dont have a clue what could be causing it.
And you are saying it is showing she is logged in on the forums index page right, in the who's online section.
Because if you see her as being logged in the admin panel, that will stay there for a little while even if she is logged out.
Once again be sure to tell her to check her browsers settings and that she is allowing cookies/third party cookies. Because i have come across people in the past that do not allow cookies from the site, and you are not able to log in if it is set like this. so be sure she is indeed allowing the cookies.
Because you can log in as her but she cant... ???? once again odd?

Re: Portal problems...!
I'm talking to her via skype and she showed me her screen...
when she enters the page - 1st: she doesn't go to the Portal like she's supposed to, she goes to the forum even though I have redirected to the portal in the settings...
She can see herself in the "Who's online" and so can I (not in admin panel), but she sees the page as a guest would ...
when she tries to log in , it refreshes like normally and then shows exactly the same again - so she can keep trying to log in but nothing happens...
This happened after I installed the portal , yet me and the other users don't seem to have any problems - and yes , confusingly enough , I can log in to her account without issue...

Re: Portal problems...!
i need screen shots. It is not making any sense to me.
Do you have her in a group, be sure the permissions are set correctly?
And it dose matter if you have the portal set as your home page, when you log in it will go to the forums index page.. i do not know if there is a script or way to have it redirect to the portal once logged in or not?
People get the whole set as home page option mixed up a lot. When you have a domain, or even you sub domain and go to the general link, then it will go to what you have the home page set to.
But now say you give someone the link to your index page, well it's not going to redirect to the portal page because it's the index page link.
But if you are just using your basic address with your own domain sub domain, then yes it will go to what you have the home page set to every time.
Now of course this has nothing to do with when you log in, It will always go to your forums index once logged in, and this also has nothing to do with your members problem either, i am just trying to explain how the home page setting works.
If you do not understand then post your link, it will be much easier to explain with your forums link then using an example link.
off topic
Hmm that just gave me a crazy idea, wonder if you can swap templates lol

Re: Portal problems...!
I'm sure the permissions are set correctly , because it wasn't a problem until today - I had just sort of finished my portal and I wanted her to take a look at it...
She said she didn't go the portal page and then when she pushed the portal icon in the menu , it logged her out , and there has been a problem since then...
as for the site , here you go - it's still new , and my first forum so bare with me

Re: Portal problems...!
Well like i said i cant understand her problem, We need to see what she is seeing? How i am supposed to explain this to a pro admin to look in to if i cant even explain the problem. I mean i know what you are saying but it dose not add up.
Ask her to try a different browse, and you never did tell me if she checked her cookies setting in her browser either.
As far as the portal as your home page.
This is you main site link
http://mobbles.do-talk.com/
so whatever you have your home page set to, when you go to that link it will go to the home page you have it set to every time.
But now say you have something else on the end of the link, Like
http://mobbles.do-talk.com/forum
http://mobbles.do-talk.com/login
or a thread link/section link
http://mobbles.do-talk.com/f7-mobble-news
Now of course it's not going to redirect to your home page you have set, If that was the case you would never be able to get to anything but your home page. lol
OK So back to her problem , either she is getting confused with something, or there is some sort of freaky glitch going on with her somehow?
She really needs to check that she is allowing cookies, and to try on another browser and see if it is doing the same thing.
It's not happening to you, it's not happening to any other members, so it seems to be leaned towards something on her end, or she is getting confused with the whole thing.
So let me know, i can still pass it on to a pro admin, but they might have to ask the same things, However they are pro-admins and have ways checking things better that we cant .
Info added
If you like tell her to come here and try to explain to us as well

Re: Portal problems...!
She has tried with to different browsers and her cookie settings are right too.
and I don't know what a screenshot would do here - nothing changes , she doesn't get a error message or anything...
1. she get's on the forum page , is shows her the forum like she's a guest (I see her in the "users online" already here)
2. She logs into her account
3. nothing has changed , she still sees the page as a guest and she can keep trying to log in as much as she wants but still it remains the same...

Re: Portal problems...!
I have an update , for some reason it worked it self out - she tried again just now and now there's no problem...
but... I'm still curious as to why this happened - it could be from her end ... but what if it's not and what if it happens again?
I hope you'll figure something out , if not then I'm just hoping it won't happen again

Re: Portal problems...!
Hello,
I don't understand what happened with this user, but as she was the only one to face the problem, we aren't able to reproduce it and try to tell you what was the exact cause of this.
I guess it was an issue on her side.
Thanks a lot !

Re: Portal problems...!
ok glad she worked it out.
Now as far as having the portal set as your home page.
You just set it as the home page. I explained abaove it will only redirect to the home page if you are useing the forums mian domian link.
You can not have smething else on the end of the link or it will not redirect there.
I have already explained this abaove.
