new accounts activation: admin = not working?

Post by ESlayer on July 9th 2012, 6:42 pm

In the user admin settings I have checked "new accounts activation" to admin because I would like to make a private forum and approve all new members so that only members can view posts, etc. However, now when a new account is created two peculiar things happen:

1. The new user is prompted that their member request needs to be authorized, but about a minute later gets an email saying that their account has been authorized even though I haven't taken any action.

2. I get an email saying that a new member request is made asking me to approve it as expected, but when I click the link in the email it says "no such user exists".

Thanks for any help.

I think you activate it by mistake? Since when do you feel is this happening?

I tried again just to triple check and make sure I didn't activate something by mistake, this time not even touching the email that gets sent to my admin address. Same occurance as what I detailed above. I've just recently started with forumotion and this happened since I've first tried to use this feature today (7/9/12)

General>Forum>Configuration
Resynchronize your forum : Check to resynchronize
Save

See if that changes anything?

But in my case, their account is being activated before I ever click the link.

Can i ask do you have any other admin's on your forum could they be clicking the link without you knowing ?
also try and remove the admin activation and put it to members to do it and save then

Resynchronize your forum : Check to resynchronize
Save
then go back on the same setting and reset it back to admin again this may fix your problem.

we had the same problem with one other setting last night with mods settings and by turning the setting off and back on again fixed the problem.

Give that a go and see if there is a change.

I'll try your suggestion, but to answer your question, no there are no other admins. The email approving the new member request comes almost immediately after the email that states the member needs to be approved, so there really wouldn't even be time for anyone to approve anything, at least not manually.
