Hi, the icon you're looking at is probably the forum icons legend. If it is indeed locked, you can edit the permissions at:

1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. General Tab
3. Categories and forums (on the left, under Forum)
4. Click on the permissions sign ( Perms ) on a forum
5. Edit the permissions accordingly

If that's not what you're looking for, can you explain further or provide a screenshot? Thanks!

I've literally just set it up so I haven't changed any settings. I have looked through those you suggested and they all look fine.

Here's a pick (hopefully)

That's just a posting key - the forum isn't actually locked. If you create a forum and set it to 'locked' that is the icon that will show.

Yes, LostLegend is right. You've nothing to worry about, that's only a guidance and does not mean your forum is locked. As long as you have allowed your members to post by selecting the correct permissions then it's all good. Smile

P.S. Yes for Southend!

So what might be the reason why the new member "armCHAIRpundit" can't post reply's or start new topics??

Also can I get rid of that 'Locked' posting key (whatever that is!)

nothing to worry about. your forum isn't locked. Those 3 icons are basically there to let members know if there's a 'locked topic', "new post" in a topic or "no new' post in a particular topic. Icons of this nature are in most all forums.
For instance ..if i have a topic with a new post, you will see the "New Post topic icon appear next to the forum which a new post was written. it alerts members that there's a new posts. same for a locked topic or a topic with nothing new posted within.
I hope i explain this ok. Having a case of the "hair of the dog".

If a certain member can't post, then you should check out the permissions of that forum.

1. Administration Panel (advanced mode)
2. General Tab
3. Categories and forums (on the left, under Forum)
4. Click on the permissions sign ( Perms ) on the forum
5. Make sure 'Open a topic' and 'Reply to a message' is checked for members

If you would like to remove the picture legend, then add this to your CSS code in the admin panel:

Code:
ul#picture_legend, ul#privmsgs-menu {
    display: none;
}
