Platitude Forums - Just another community forum.

Post by Alex_Eror on July 21st 2012, 1:51 am

Welcome,

Platitude Forums is a miscellaneous community in which users can come together, meet up, chat and talk about, well, anything! Our forums allows discussions of many different topics, and many opportunities. You can do anything from talk about a new movie to getting help programming a game - of course, nothing illegal. Platitude has a great amount of amazing features for you to enjoy - I'll save the best until last! Smile

First of all, the come with a huge set of moods, so you can express yourself and how you're feeling. They're free and easily toggled in your profile. Platitude also comes with a great set of rules and a semi-strict, semi-laid back staff enforcing them. The forums allow all sorts of topic - its hard to find a topic that isn't covered by one of the well-organised, active forums.

Now, onto the amazing stuff that I know you'll love. Platitude even comes with a custom-coded, fully-accessible, regularly-updated, in-forum virtual shop! Once you sign up, you will be able to earn Plati (our currency). You earn this by posting good posts, introducing yourself and making friends. Once you save up for a bit, you'll be able to buy from the huge variety of items in the massive shop. Just click the Purchase button next to the item, and you should have the item in no time. Items include images below your name (awards), name customisation (e.g. glowing name, an icon, etc)! Very Happy

More awesome stuff now - contests! Yes, you heard me. There are many contests going on in Platitude. For example, submitting your YouTube video to be featured on the homepage, a lottery with a Plati jackpot, and player-held giveaways, just to name a few! They're all free to enter and you could be a lucky winner!

So, what are you waiting for? Come along and chat about, well, anything! Smile

Platitude News - 24/07/12

Post by Alex_Eror on July 24th 2012, 5:49 pm

Today in Platitude News, a few major steps towards a much better site have been made! One of these steps are the forum shop! After hours of coding, I have completed 99.9% of the forum shop, so look forward to that soon; but for now, here's a little snippet of a sneak peak:

In other news, the official Forumotion reviewer team has reviewed this forum. Below is their official analysis, and any bits in red have been fixed/changed.

Platitude Forums

Despite the brilliant first impression I have of the forum, it is sort of let down by two or three things. First, the great theme is not original - it was made by Quierra. This is no bad thing in terms of getting members, but it does hinder the review score a little bit. The second thing is that your forum's favicon is generic. This is being really nitpicky, but I do not feel that it fits well with the forum in general. I would suggest trying to find one of a speech bubble with some text in? In any case, the third issue is that you have a massive 'accordion' with nothing in it at the time of the review. I recommend finishing coding and graphics projects first before putting them up as so not to deter potential members who see the unfinished items.

In any case, the forum looks good. It seems like a site I may join as it has quality and attention to detail, but there are two further things I would like to point out so that the forum can be a bit more streamlined. First off, hide the inactive forums and show them again upon request when you know someone is going to post in them, and secondly - show the title of the last topic on the index. This option is located in the admin panel - structure and hierarchy - scroll down.

I do like the little images you have for each forum, as they give the site a bit more of a professional air. Check the wording of some of these locations though, a few are a bit dodgy such as:

For forum games - whether it be counting to 100 or drawing with ASCII art, it has it all.

Perhaps it would be better as:

For forum games, whether it be counting to 100 or drawing with ASCII art.

There's not much to criticise to be honest. You've started off well with a good theme, and usually that's the trigger to get sites going (well, unless you're famous and people join anyway because of that).

    Two final suggestions are:

    - Find the code that hides the underline on usernames, and implement this into your CSS.
    - Change the group name of 'moderators' to 'moderator' to fit with the rest.

All in all, this forum looks great. Happy discussions!

So, a great review for Platitude. Hopefully we can get a full review once more people have joined.

Today's poll:
Would you like to see the forum buttons (reply, new topic, locked, etc) changed? Vote using the poll up top.

Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time.

Welcome to Platitude News, where I'll go through all the latest updates, and what we can expect to see.

So, what's new? Well, first of all, we've replaced the old buggy chat and replaced it with a new, much better one. To access the chat, just click the image above the first category:

The chat is hosted by xat, so please use your forum username as the chat name. Credit for creating the background goes to our graphics designer, ail_t, and tweaked a small bit by myself.

Next, there have been some small tweaks to small things in the forum, for example, a sweet animation zoom on the images. Just click on one! Here's an elephant to help you.

As well as some updates, we now have new staff! maingan, Nick and ail_t.

That's about it update-wise, but we have some great things coming soon!

So, what can we expect? Well, I'll leave best until last, so, here are some of the minor changes. A multiple theme selection function could soon be implemented, so you can easily change the forum's theme! Tweaks are already being made to the current design to make it look a bit nicer.

Now - the more significant changes... A homepage is changed! Platitude will no longer just be a forum, but it will rather have a proper homepage too. Here are snippets of the homepage to give you some hints.

Well, that's all for this week. Remember to vote in the threads poll!

Goodbye, and thanks for reading.
