Solved "Online" strip overwritten by custom background?

Post by Alexander Moore on August 1st 2012, 8:08 am

I have backgrounds for Admins / Mods like this forum has (using Javascript + CSS), but also like this forum, those backgrounds only show on the left side of the posts because they have transparency the more you go to the right.

The "Online" strip appears all the way to the right, where the BG shouldn't show at all. However, it seems that it's been overwritten because of the image.

But here it all checks out no problem. How do I work around this issue?

Solved Re: "Online" strip overwritten by custom background?

Ugh, internet is being incredibly slow right now. I'm getting errors in Chrome when loading pages. Might be my VPN, I dunno.

Anyway, I'll include a screenshot tomorrow if I have to, this is probably a temporary problem.

It's really simple to understand though. See the "Online" strip in the upper right-hand corner of the posts of people that are currently online? Yeah, that normally displays in the posts of anyone that's currently online.

Okay, now do you see the pretty gold graphic to the left of your post-profile? You know, the one that's making your posts glow radiantly because you're staff? The one that's written in JavaScript + CSS?

Well, on my forum I have a similar graphic. It's setup using JavaScript + CSS as well.

However, on my forum, the "Online" strip will get overwritten as soon as that staff background loads. It will seem as if it simply disappeared. But the image doesn't even expand out to the right that far.

I don't want that image to vanish anymore. How can I fix this?

Have you added your online image to the CSS code?

I haven't. The online place it's addressed in the forum basic CSS. Do I need to add it?

Edit : After adding the code to the CSS (placing it after the code for the admin / mod backgrounds) it still doesn't work out.

Post the CSS code that you added for the post background.

Code:
.adminposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/17/48/49/15/photo10.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}
.techposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo112.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}
.modposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo110.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}
.gfxposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo115.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}

Basically what you guys have, but with some being colorized differently.

In fact, that reminds me to re-host the first image.

(Ugh, I totally replied to my code thread with this reply. I'm really not thinking today, sorry.)

Yup, that pointed me in the right direction.

After reading it I didn't do exactly as it said. I instead used what I learned to make this code :

Code:
.adminposts.online {
background: url("http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/17/48/49/15/photo10.png") repeat-y scroll left top, url("http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver/icon_user_online_en.png") no-repeat scroll right top #E5F1F9;
}
.adminposts {
background: url("http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/17/48/49/15/photo10.png") repeat-y scroll left top #E5F1F9;
}
.managerposts.online {
background: url("http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo112.png") repeat-y scroll left top, url("http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver/icon_user_online_en.png") no-repeat scroll right top #E5F1F9;
}
.managerposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo112.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}
.modposts.online {
background: url("http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo110.png") repeat-y scroll left top, url("http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver/icon_user_online_en.png") no-repeat scroll right top #E5F1F9;
}
.modposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo110.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}
.gfxposts.online {
background: url("http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo115.png") repeat-y scroll left top, url("http://illiweb.com/fa/prosilver/icon_user_online_en.png") no-repeat scroll right top #E5F1F9;
}
.gfxposts {
background:url('http://i48.servimg.com/u/f48/14/58/00/77/photo115.png') repeat-y scroll 0 0 #e5f1f9 !important;
}

Now everything displays just fine! Thank you.

I hope to get back to being as good at this as I used to be...I'm a fairly fast learner, but when I stop doing something for 4 years well...I forget the things I learn just as fast as I learn them Razz so I'm basically re-educating myself. I shouldn't stop again, haha.

Please help with my other problem in the coding section when you have the chance. I'm coming close to finished with my forum, not many questions left to ask Very Happy
