I wasn't sure which category to post this in, but I was wondering if there was a certain way to allow your forum to assign a random post number to each reply. If there is please let me know how. Thanks

What do you mean random post number? Could you show an example?

well I've never seen it on forumotion, but on another forum, each post gets its own ID number. I was just wondering if there was any way I could set that up for my forum (phpBB3). Do I still need to elaborate?

Each post does get its own ID. For example your last post - https://help.forumotion.com/t112652-post-number#737820

post-number#737820

Each post is assigned a unique ID, which is its primary key in the database and which uniquely identifies that post.

You can find it in the hash part of the URL from post title, or from the posts ID attribute which is the unique ID preceded by a 'p'.
