In progress Mod of administrator group?

Post by dvada191 Wed 1 Aug - 23:08

Hi,

Recently, I made a forum here for one of my friends.
Since he is technically the owner, I tried to make him mod of the administrator group.
I set the mod to his username, and clicked save.
It sets the mod back to me, so I cannot set it to him.
How would I fix this?

If you are the founder of the forum, you are automatically made the moderator of the administrator group. The only way to change it is to give the founder account to your friend.

Honestly, if you wanted to make a website for somebody, you should have used his e-mail address to build the site (have him validate the e-mail for you) and use a password you both agree on for a temporary password of the founding admin account until you finish at which stage he would take over the account and change the password.

Unfortunately, now that you've built it with your own e-mail I'm guessing, the best you can do is change the password of your current account to a fake and he can use it to login and change the username / whatever he wants.

However, later if he has any problem and has to use the admin tools (https://www.forumotion.com/en/utils/) he'll run into trouble. He will need to use the founding Admin e-mail and password if he ever needs those - meaning your e-mail and whatever password you set when you first created the site.

If you both think you're okay with that, then just do what I said in the second paragraph. If not, then you should probably try making another copy of your forum (if it's not too much trouble) using his e-mail and use a new password you both agree on. Afterwards, delete the old forum.

I made the mistake of having ownership passed to me improperly myself before. I ended up needing access to the admin tools and didn't have the information I needed because the site was originally made by my friend whom also didn't remember because the site was made years ago. In the end I had to just abandon it (because it couldn't be deleted either) and make a new one.

Edit : I remember that, in a discussion once with Sanket that he told me that, if I provide him with the founding e-mail and address of the site, he could fix the situation.

Perhaps he (speaking the Moderator in this discussion) should explain his issue to an Administrator via PM?

(Unfortunately, because I wasn't able to provide the founding e-mail, I wasn't able to to fix my problem this way either. You probably can take this route out though, since I'm guessing it's your e-mail address and therefore you most likely know it by heart).
