Post by Alex_Eror on August 22nd 2012, 10:56 pm

Could anyone tell me how I can get a Chatango chatbox on my forum (Invision version)?

You would register here and add it as a widget:

http://chatango.com/

To add it as a widget, go AP>>Modules>>Forum widgets management>>

On that page follow the instructions on how to create a widget so you can paste the chatango code into the widget. If you need more help on how to make your forum have widgets ask here.

I cannot add widgets. If I add one and activate them, the layout just screws up. :/

Yeah I understand that. Well what about creating a HTML page and adding one there? Or you could add one to your Home page. Where do you want it?

I want it at the bottom of the home page.

I was afraid you were gonna say that. That will be more difficult, in fact I'm not sure its even doable without editing the template, and invision forums you do not have access to the template.

What about just adding the chatbox to the bottom of the Home page using the default chatbox the forum already has? All you have to do is activate it.

I would, but, honestly, the default one is pretty crappy. The messages collide on different lines and you need to scroll down when a new message is said. :/

Well unless someone can tell you how to add one at the bottom of the forum without editing the template you don't have a lot of options. However I'm not saying it can't be done, just that I don't know how to do it. I could tell you how to add one near the top of the page in the home page message box, or I could explain how to create a HTML page and add one there, but the bottom of the forum I don't know. So you will need to wait for someone to come along with a definitive answer on adding one to the bottom of the Home page.

I'll be watching this topic to see if you get an answer, good luck.. Smile

Would it be possible to have it near the top, but have it default collapsed and the user could un-collapse it to display it fully?

Yes you could probably use a spoiler code to achieve that, I've had some mild success using spoiler codes for such things. But understand I had to do a lot of reading and experimenting to finally get it done and cannot not come up with the solution to your chatbox situation without messing with it myself on a testing page. I would need the code to the chatbox and relearn the spoiler coding. But just so you know I think its very doable to hind and un-hide a chatbox on any html enabled page. And the Home page message box is such a place.

Could I give you the chat code and you give it a go? If you don't mind, of course.

Well I really don't have the time for that it would take me probably hours to do. It took be hours just to make it work on hiding and unhiding text lists and images.

What you can do is google "spoiler codes" and read up on it. You want html spoiler codes. Of course someone else might have a better idea on how to hide the chatbox, but the spoiler code came to my mind first.

Here are 2 chatboxes you might consider, they will both put the chatbox at the bottom of your forum and hide them with a button to click to open them. They both are good chatboxes. Look them over and choose one if you like.

I should mention that the LG Chat doesn't require that you use a widget, so considering you didn't want to activate your widgets, the LG Chat might be the way to go for you, as the FMChat requires the use of a widget.
