Information on Reporting Inter-Site Abuse of Power

Post by John the Frog on September 1st 2012, 11:10 pm

Concerning this forum, an admin under the name of "Alucard" has been abusing the rules of the forum and disrupting the experience of the members. As the webmaster is inactive and every staff member left (he has been systematically removing those who appose him) is lower in rank than him, there is no way to stop what he is doing. Today he has appointed himself acting webmaster (and will most likely try to weasel the official position from the true webmaster at the first chance), and I am unsure of how to proceed. While it does not violate any of the terms of abuse that would warrant a report directly from the site, this is clearly unacceptable behavior. The site is effectively a dictatorship and he is changing it as he pleases, ruining the experience for all involved. If someone speaks against him, he simply removes them from power or bans them.

Any advice or information on how to proceed with this and to restore order would be appreciated.

In a nutshell, if he is the Administrator and founder of the forum he can do what he wants as long as he doesn't break the TOS.

He's actually not founder; he's just declared himself webmaster (not even using the account) as a way of getting away with doing whatever he wants.

The issue here is that he is not the admin, merely an admin.

What? You either are or you aren't. If you aren't the Admin you don't have the power. If you are the admin then you can ban the person. Its really not a complicated issue. Its black and white.

It isn't, though. There's rules even the admins have to follow, one of which is, "Don't go mad with power and demote and ban everyone who opposes you." This wouldn't be an issue if the real webmaster was here to take care of the problem, but they aren't, which is why I've turned to the people who run the forums for help.

There is no such set of guidelines. The Admin can delete the forum if they want, they can be a complete SOB and no one can do anything about it.

Again, he is not webmaster (the position you are referring to). He is just some guy who got power and now, due to inactivity from anyone who could stop him, is abusing it in ways far outside of his right to do so.

Well first of all you don't just 'get' power, the power was given to him by the Admin. It is your word against his if he is abusing the power. But even if he is its his right to do so. Its not a popularity contest, he has the power and he can do with it as he wants. He can ban everyone, its his right.

I'm sorry if he is being unfair but its his right to be so. He doesn't have to be fair. You people should just leave the forum and go someplace that has an Admin that runs a forum the way you like. The forum is nothing more than a website, and the power to run it is given to the Admin. It can be his own personal blog if he so chooses, or he can delete it. He owes no one anything. You said yourself he wasn't breaking the TOS. You're saying hes not the Admin but he has the power to ban someone. He could be a Moderator. There is no power ranking of "Webmaster". In either case the power was given to him by the Admin.

I am sorry to heard that you are having issues with an administrator. The only two things you can do are leave the forum or contact the founder.
