In progress Need Help taking over a Forum (w/ Founder Permission)

Post by Darthberizing August 15th 2012, 5:51 pm

Hi

I'm going to be buying a forum from the current founder who wants to move on. He's given me his account information but wants to remain as a member (so I can't take over his Name ID). I am in the admin panel and don't see anything about transferring ownership and founder rights.

So I guess my two questions are:

1) How do I become the founder and does that make me the forum "owner"
2) Don't I still need to take ownership of the domain name itself (it's not a forumotion one)

As a sidebar when I go into his admin panel it say my storage space will expire in 5 days. I see where I can more but how do I just renew it?

Thanks everyone

John

Hi, Hello

What forum host are you going to use? Or planning to use?

Thanks for the link. I'd already seen it but it looked like I'd need tom completely remove the founder from the site. Basically we'd be swapping positions. He'd become a member (with all previous posts and such) and I'd be the founder.

I did some more searching around but didn't get any answer. Just to be clear:

Current Founder wants to remain on the board , but as a member

I want to move from Admin/Moderator to founder.

Ive gone into the Utilities panel and updated my Email address and also did the direct link. I also have the founder login credentials but can't edit any of the information.

Hope this narrows down the possible solutions

You have to take over the founder account which will give you complete control and access.

Please don't double/triple post. Your post need to be separated by 24 hours before bumping, replying or adding more information. Please use the edit button instead!

So do I change his name to mine and visa versa? Then demote him to member? What about all our previous posts? He's got over 4000 and I'm not far behind

Yes. You will have to use the founder account.

Do this:
Old founder - create a new account and copy and paste all old posts.
You take over the founder account. Then delete the old founder's posts that have been copied.

Looks like my only outstanding question is on the URL itself.

Does the previous owner own the URL (www.imperialgunneryforum.com) or does forumotion ? The previous founder has no recollection of whether he bought the URL or if he did it through here.

Can someone tell me?

We're really sorry, I think only our pro administrator will be able to answer this and she's currently on a 2 week vacation, we apologize for the delay, but I will pass this thread to her so whenever she gets back, she gets to see and read your question. Thank you.

Hello,

The current founder needs to leave his founder account and create another one on the forum.

Tell him to provide me by PM the creation email address and the new creation email address that you want to use and I'll do the founder change.

The domain name remains to the forum, so you'll have full control on it. We just need to change the information of the owner.

Hi Leeloo (BTW if it's a 5th Element reference, AWESOME)

I think that is done already.

- Founder account is now under my control , his old username is now a new member
- I went into the Utility and changed the founder Email to my Email

I'll send you a PM with my Email address which should be all over the founder information. Judging by your remarks, technically you guys own the domain name? So if I want to move the forum I can't have the URL?

I'll send you a PM right now, thanks!
