Textbox Widget

Post by Arrow on September 20th 2012, 2:14 pm

First off Hi.

Right so I want to make a text box in a widget, but it's a pretty simple idea that I will build on, but I just can't get it up and running.

The Idea: Is basically a simple input box where the user can type in whatever they want like "hi guys" and then submit it.

It would then appear in a block under the submit button with the usersname and the message which everyone can see. But anyone can use the submit box and the messages would update so users can see them on in the widget. I does not need to have the username that would just be a bonus.

It would basically be a mini post box in a widget.

So It would look something like this, only of course better, I just threw this up in paint so you get an idea, I have already started the code for the text box with the submit button it's the rest I need to figure out LOL.

Any help would be welcomed

Hi, outside of writing the script yourself you could use a Cbox:

Thanks but It's not really a chat box that I am after, merely just a quick message tool. It seems silly but I gave my users access to a chatbox like system they would spend for ever on it rather then in the forums LOL. But I also want to learn more about coding, so if someone knows how to do this and can show me, then i can look at the coding for future use and learn a bit more Very Happy.

Messages can't just be magically remembered unfortunately. They must be stored somewhere in order to be displayed. So this task would need a database unfortunately. Wink

Yeah I tried to place the icon at the top but was getting a flood protection warning.
