how do you make the border around the forums translucent?

http://i.imgur.com/SCWqz.png <- my friends forums have no borders for the topics mine do but I want to change them.. any idea what I am doing wrong

I dont see how a link to the site would help... but it has since been changed from that look anyways so it is pointless now. I have seen on other forums though that instead of having boxes around the forums like there is on mine it is just the words and you can see the background. I have been looking around but cannot find anything specific for this.
