Solved Avatar Gifs

Post by Korvic on October 11th 2012, 3:50 am

Hello all! Korvic here, was wondering if there is a way to enable gifs as avatars? I have a few users who like having gifs as avatars apposed to a jpg or png. Thanks for any help you can give!

They don't have gifs as default. However, you can add gif as your avatar.

Find gif image online>Profile>Avatar>Link to an off-site Avatar>Save

Hope that helps at all

I know how to add a gif, I'm saying that everytime that I, or one of my members have tried, it has not worked. We cannot use gifs for avatars for an unknown reason.

If you upload it it only uses the first frame of the gif, if you use an off site avatar is says that the file type is wrong.

I think I see what the problem is, the gif size is too large. However why can't we link one from an off-site location? Whenever we try this we get "The URL of the remote avatar is not valid". :/

Solved Re: Avatar Gifs

I'm just grabbing gifs from Senor Gif right now. The way you suggest, even if that were to work that'd be horrid as I do not want users having to download and upload and blah blah blah to make a gif avatar when they should be able to do it rather simply. I will try it to report back the information, however I don't want that as the end result.

EDIT:

Okay, I uploaded it elsewhere and it worked, however I don't want people having to upload things here there and everywhere, as said. Also, is there a way to set a max size for off-site URLs as well along with this all?

Solved Re: Avatar Gifs

Post by Korvic on October 13th 2012, 6:52 am

Well, it obviously did not because when I applied the GIF uploaded to www.imageups.com rather than from the source, it worked, but it took up half the page with the GIF avatar alone. Please, I just want people to be able to find a GIF they like, right click it, copy the URL, and paste it in the "Off-Site Avatar" while keeping it's pixel size small enough to not take over the forums.

Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time, its width cannot exceed 150 pixels, the height cannot exceed 200 pixels, and the file size cannot be higher than 64 KB.
Thats the limit & cannot be changed, whether uploaded or linked.

Forget the pixel part, but the KB thing must be right.
Display>Avatar Gallery
Personal Avatar tab
You can change the size. I believe this would work with avatars other than the gallery too.

I need the pixel size to be small enough to not stretch the forum a new one. I'm not talking about gallery photos, I'm talking about custom player uploaded pictures.

Thats what i said, it applies even to pictures other than the gallery & to custom user uploaded pictures.

So you are saying the dimensions of the avatar should be limited?

IT was originally that I couldn't get GIFs to upload to the forum, I guess after changing the address a bit ago it's no longer the case, however now the GIFs are still not uploading to the right sizes, or rather they are uploading to the improper sizes.

Okay, i am getting a little confused now. Just fix your problem first.
Is uploading the problem?
Is resizing the image that displays on the avatar a problem?

Because one is like pre processing & next is like post processing.

I had used this gif as an example as this would be the types of GIFs that many people will use.

http://www.imageups.com/img/uploads/big/5122001daf.gif

This is the profile that I'm using to upload it right now.

http://deus-venatus.forum.net.bz/u1

And here's an example post as to why it's toooooo large. I would prefer it to be limited to a size much like the one below it.
