A few forum issues that have appeared this week (redirections on thread clicking)

Post by Hobo606v2 on November 5th 2012, 8:22 pm

I go this message earlier from one of my admin:

JuliusHMarx wrote:Why do I sometimes get re-directed to other sites when I click on a topic - some sort of advertising thing? Is it unavoidable? It's only started happening the last week or so. Most annoying.

A few members have brought this to my attention too.

Also, I have just had a replacement search engine install itself (Snap on) even though I havent been on any new sites that I use.

Is there a known problem going about?

Is the advertising page by ad-fly?

I am not sure.

We have removed the forumotion adverts through credits and put up our own through google adverts.

Do you know if it was all the links or just certain links?

Its not happened to me but here are few other of our moderators who have had it:

Derbyblue wrote:That has happened to me a few times too, taking me to those "Congratulations you're our Hull winner" sort of sites.

@Pete C (Kiwireddevil) wrote:A couple of Rugby posters were complaining about the same during the week, again they were "congrats on being 1,000,000th visitor" type

do you have your own ad's on the forum? something that may be redirecting.

You have to tell who it is happening to too get as much details of what it is doing and where.. is it adfly, if it is adfly it may be something forumotion has in place.

But now if you have html enabled and it is happe3n in certain threads or post, then it could be a html code someone has posted.

Unless we fully understand what it is doing, where it is happening and where the links are going to it is hard to tell what may be causing it?
did you add any of your own scripts?

Hi Kirk - the ads are google adsense adverts.
