Solved Tor and Forumotion

Post by ShowStopper November 8th 2012, 1:07 am

For some reason when members try to use Tor to access my forum, at logging in an info page shows up and says "You are not allowed to log on this forum.". I am not sure why it is doing that, I would like people to be able to use a forum without having to show their exact IP address or other browser information.

Tor is an onion proxy network, it is explained in detail at their website: https://www.torproject.org/

My forum's link is http://heroesnetwork.forumotion.net however it is member's only.

Is your forum on holiday? Also, if you're an admin, it'd be only natural for you to see their IP's and you can just set the IP stuff in options to moderators and above or admin alone Smile

My forum is set to members only for security and privacy reasons. And right now only admins can see IPs, but I would like the members to know that they don't have to have them seen by anyone.

Wouldn't the IP not be viewed by admins impossible? Plus, it'll help you for more security and safety reasons so I don't know why you'd like to remove it since it'll help more than it can damage :/

If it's a proxy (hides/maskes your IP address or gives you a temporary IP Address) then it must accept cookies, and sometimes it wont work at all if its known to the forumotion techs.
They have a script in place that blocks some proxies from logging in.

It can accept cookies.

The Admins know each member personally and get to know people before they join, so spam and trolling messages being posted are not an issue at all. The thing is I want members to be able to log in without anyone being able to see their IP, not even me.

I've searched the forum and didn't see any info on any proxy blocking scripts. Besides, a lot of people have to use a proxy to get online anyways, like AOL users. I've also used proxies to get on Forumotion boards before, and didn't have any problem logging in.

Hello,

The technicians have just informed me that our antispam system is blocking this anonymizer of the IP address.

That's the case of several softwares which are proposing this service, because spammers use this type of proxy to access our forums and post undesirable content.

I see then. Would there be any way for individual forums to be able to toggle that feature on and off?

There is no option for that in the administration panel.
