So, I have developed a donation-ware application and what better way to discuss it with people who download it than by opening up a free forum...

So now I am getting a few complaints about the "toolbar" that my application installs...and how nearly EVERY user is having A LOT of difficulty installing the application?!?!?

After several days of trying to determine what has been going on, I find out they are clicking on the advertisement banner, and being prompted to download the advertisement malware. Now wonder they have not been able to get "MY" software to work!

I seriously had no problems with whatever the forum hosts decide to put up there, but this is completely uncalled for. Why on earth would people actually want to install the malware that is being advertised?!?!

Hello,

I'm not sure if Forumotion can control this, but can you try to provide a screenshot of the advertisement, and so we can get the attention of Leeloo(Administrator). Thanks Smile

Virus 84081729

Virus 97140468

There is another one but it doesn't have a transparent background that matches the forum background, so it is fairly easy to tell it is an ad. I have tried changing to theme/background in order to offset the ads so they stand out better and people know that they are in fact clicking on an advertisement. This doesn't work though because of the transparency.

Is there perhaps a way to put a slightly larger image behind the ads, to appear kind of like a frame for it, so that the images with transparent background stand out from the forum background, and do not get confused with a legit application download?

I understand the forum hosts have to make money or else the forums would not be "free". I wanted to make an announcement scrolling across the top stating not to click the ad under the text because it is not my application, but was unsure if that would violate the T&C somehow.

Forumotion.com is entirely free site. We strive to offer quality service. We ask that you do not remove the copyright information and footer set up on your forums through means other than the one provided, namely via the credits management.
It is also forbidden to remove or hide the sponsored links through any means other than the one provided, namely the credits management. We provide a quality service completely free and are always looking to improve it to meet your expectations. For these reasons, we ask that you respect our terms.

Since I would not be moving the advertisement, or hiding it, would it follow the terms of service to put a background behind the ad banner? This would help make it stand out more, so that users might know it is something separate and not apart of my application download.

I know I am not really supposed to double post, but this is important and will be the last post that I make on these forums anyways.

Please disregard the request for something to be done about the advertisements. This mistake is completely my fault for trying to provide a Donation-ware application on "free-forums" where the users download malware from the advertisements instead.

I will be shutting down my forum right after I log all members email addresses for further contact once I determine how to get the application to them with them being infected by malware.

I hope something really bad happens to the people behind the malware advertisements!

Please don't double/triple post. Your post need to be separated by 24 hours before bumping, replying or adding more information. Please use the edit button instead.

The only way to remove the ads is by credits, also, I would advice them not to click on the advertisements. Forumotion doesn't have control over the ads, unless it is an ad that redirects to porn/mature site, we can report it to our pro administrator and so they can make the action about it.

Sorry, you must not know...

It is okay to tell people that they must pay to take the advertisements down...this is what is called "Business Sense".

It is EXTORTION to tell someone that the must pay to take down Malware...this is what is called "Against The Law"!

Have a good day.

No it is the ad company responceablity to remove any corrupt ad's.
Forumotion only use a service like google ad sense, i am not sure what service it is forumotion use? I always thought it was google? because i know members have to remove forumotion ad's before they can use their own google ad sense, so i am pretty sure it is google forumotion use.,
So basically google would be responsible and liable to remove them. Forumotion has no control over what ad's google are going to run at any given time, Forumotion can only report and provide all information to google to request for the ad's removal.

If and when you come across any such corrupt ad's be sure to get a screen shot of the ad and url the ad leads to so we can pass it on to a pro admin to report and have the ad removed.
Smile

Other then that please provide your forums url to leeloo like she has requested thumright
