Blocking TOR

Post by Richsballpythons on December 1st 2012, 9:40 am

Is there a way to block TOR type anonymizer type programs from accessing the forums or denying them registration.

I noticed when banning a member, Not even 5 mins later I noticed tor up address trying to re register which was the same person!

I know there are PHP codes for blocking the ports in which tor runs. But can they be implemented on our forums to block people hiding their location to get passed bans.

tor usually shows up similar to this
tor20.anonymizer.ccc.de

That dont help and dynamic ips are isp assigned and randomly change few times a year.

When using the programs like tor they hide your ip theoigh proxy ports which is pita to keep banning. Has to be way with these forums system to block tue ports tor and others alike run on.

Well then, follow Kirk's style.

Have the new members be assigned to a group that can't do anything and then find out their emails since you did say they'd be the same person over and over again and then once the person's clear, you can move them to another group with permissions.

That would be fine and dandy if upon regiatration it was done automatically.
And with a busy forum his setup would fail badly with memebrs needing help asap would have to wait for further verification

The php code for bloxking tor is there, but the admins of the servers have to implament it. Not sure how they will do it by either code or throgh out cp

Well then, if it's not much of a hassle, if it's a code, do you mind posting it here so we can identify where it should belong?

php codes would have to be hosted somewhere else. Forumotion does not support php codes on their sites. Only php allowed is the php to make the site, and php variables in the templates.
