To do this you use the moderation tools at the bottom of each topic when it is opened. Use Merge topics to join up several threads into one. It is fairly easy to do & just follow the prompts.

You can only do this one topic at a time so it will take a little bit of time if you are merging several of them.

As your forum is still very new with only one forum in each category, it is very hard to picture what effect you really want to achieve. The answer I gave above is for merging different topics/threads into one which is what I thought you wanted to do. It does seem as though you may be talking about forums & subforums.

The only advice I can give you now is to get really familiar with your Admin Panel. Trial & error will eventually teach you how it operates to get the effect you want. This is how most of us learnt to make our forums the way we wanted them to look.

true i do agree with you 100%
i was talking about merging the threads we have ,like [ Truth Before Dishonor.Leading the way to a Better Life..All You Have To Do is Take A Stand], we are trying to merge them together ,
and these >[understanding,..wisdom,.your day get's brighter,..the act of kindness,,tell your story]
merging them together .......it should be simple -but not working for me or mr Tracy
maybe we are missing steps ....duno -it's very confusing when you don't know excaty what to do ..

Firstly, you have to decide which forum you would like the merged threads/topics to go to & which thread/topic you will merge the others with. At the moment, your forum looks as though it is all categories.

To merge topics click onto the Merge topics icon at the bottom of the open topic page. Click Select & the page of topics from that forum will appear with a circle beside the topics' titles. Click in the circle of the topic you want to other one to go to, then scroll to the bottom of the page again, click Select, then Send in the window which will appear, answer Yes in the next window & the job is done.

If you want to move the merged topics/threads, or any topic, to another forum, click on to the Move this topic icon in the moderating tools & follow the prompts. It does get quite easy after a while.

The format I chose for my forum was "Split categories on index - medium". The format you have chosen is one I haven't used & it would be difficult for me to give you a tutorial on how to set this up. However Forumotion has very good tutorials for the members to use & here is the link to 'Categories and Forums - Creation and Appearance' which is in the FAQ above.

Categories & Forums

Here is a link to my forum which is set out in the Medium format.

Did you try using the link to how to set up Categories & Forum, in my second post up?? It is a great step-by-step how-to on getting your categories & forums the way you want them to look like.

I have never used punBB, only phpBB2, then upgraded to phpBB3, finally went the whole hog & went to Invision which I highly recommend. It is really easy to use & looks classy. Some people have problems with punBB so I do not know if this is the reason for your frustrating inability to get your forum looking the way you want it. It should be dead easy to set your forum up the way I have mine.

Post by patiogardener on December 9th 2012, 1:54 am

No, I what I said was that I changed my forum version to Invision, (not invisible), from phpBB3 which I was using before that. With both of these versions I had no trouble in setting up my forum as I wanted it to be. Some people do have some problems with punBB which seems to be the version you say you are using.

It is now impossible to see what your forum looks like as guests can only see a log in or register portal & not the whole forum as before.

With phpBB3 you should have no trouble setting things up. Silly question, I know, but have you been clicking Save after making changes, etc??
