Moderation Panel (alterantive to Admin Panel)*

Post by Raph95 on February 2nd 2008, 3:25 pm

First topic message reminder :

So, what do you think? Same like Admin CP, just less features! For exapmle, you have GFX Mod, and he will have only Styles in his "Moderator CP"!

Yes voted!

That would also most likely make it possible for moderators to read reports Wink

i dont see a need for a moderator panel, all the needs of a moderator are already available to them.

Good idea, as long as it lists reports because I was testing out the report button when I made my forum, but I couldn't find where to view reports.

It would at least be good if moderators could edit members profiles. That way if they see a bad signature, avatar, name etc they could go into their panel and just edit it. (especially since they are moderating a lot of the posts, they will see things like that first)

moderaters have enough power as it is. plus some moderaters could go mad with power and mess up the forum. Thumb down

As an Admin and a site owner I still have to stand by my original answer of NO. Several members have said that an additional MOD panel is necessary to um, ban people if and when an ADMIN is not around. That decision is up to the site owner to make or at the very least the senior admin. and because of this, forumotion has made that decision an option ie:
FAQ's from this very board wrote:- Moderator : A member who's charged to ensure a nice ambiance in a section or in a group of sections. For this, he has tools simple member don't have, such as moving, locking, unlocking, deleting, splitting, merging topics, editing or deleting posts, banning troublesome members (if the admin allowed it in "Admin Panel >> General >> Security")

There is no need for an additional panel as all of the Moderators tools are at the end of each page in every forum. There is a huge difference in the meanings of words such as an Administrator - a person who administers to the needs of the site and a Moderator - a person who keeps content and posts and tempers in moderation.

@slinkyman wrote:It would at least be good if moderators could edit members profiles. That way if they see a bad signature, avatar, name etc they could go into their panel and just edit it. (especially since they are moderating a lot of the posts, they will see things like that first)

Now I will agree with just a bit of what slinkyman says here about being able to edite siggies and such but still there does not need to be a Moderators panel to do this.

Ok, this is something that i would deff. vote yes on. in my gaming community/clan, i want my members to want to be a mod. i want them to prove to me they can be. (and of course i want more active users.) i think the mods SHOULD have more options, authority, etc. it should be a great privilege to be a mod. THEREFOR, I CHOOSE YES.

The Mod panel does not make a moderator nor should it entice members to want to be a Moderator. A Moderator should be someone who steadfastly represents what you want to happen on your boards and works diligently to make that happen so as to free up the time an Administrator could have to work on bigger and better things for the site. A Mod Panel just doesn't make that happen.

Their Tools are already there and available. Yes I do agree that they should be able to delete avvies and siggies if those images are out of line but they don't need a separate "panel" to do this. Just an option place in the site coding that give them the access to "Moderate" a persons profile.
