Re: New Forumotion updates : your opinion !

Post by Asteroid35 on March 1st 2013, 9:53 am

I think this is the right section as it is an opinion on the updates, though it does include wanting something added...

This is a big improvement to the mobile version. There is only one thing which will be keeping me using the desktop version on mobile devices for the time being - the apparent lack of a 'go to latest post' button. You have to understand that it is much more of a hassle to go through 15 pages of posts to see the most recent post than it is to do the 'pinch to zoom' thing on the normal site.

Unless I just haven't noticed the button?!

It is very nearly there though. If that one thing is added, I will definitely be using it. Smile Thanks for the work on it so far. Smile

Hello,

There's a suggestion on this matter Smile :
http://help.forumotion.com/t120385-latest-posts

I suggest you to add a new vote to the poll.
As this option is really important for most users, it should be taken into account by the technical team.

Is a "poll" even necessary for something so blatantly obvious as this? A poll is fine and dandy for cute little add-on features, but with a full-blown functionality issue such as this it seems rather ridiculous to discuses a poll. Its like, if you need an operation on your heart because your doctor recommends it, you don't create a poll asking for the popular opinion on if you should have it or not.

Just my "opinion".

The English Community isn't the only community of Forumotion.
So the "Suggestions" sections are the way for the company to know what is expected by the members, from all communities.

But absolutely, that's your right to think that this isn't the better solution. Smile

It doesn't matter if I think its right that this isn't the better solution, because a Poll isn't a solution at all, its not even relevant. The solution is to implement the fix, a poll is filibustering the issue when something so painfully obvious as this needs to be addressed.

With all due respect, even you acknowledged the importance of this issue when you said "this option is really important for most users". Are you expected to take the poll also or does your opinion hold any extra weight with the company?

This is not an issue that requires a poll, nor is the quantities of communities relevant, a poll is still a poll no matter how many polls you have asking the same question, its a serious functionality issue that affects everyone equally that needs immediate addressing, its not a "poll" issue.

That's not a bug.

I don't want to repeat the same thing several times.
I already gave the reasons why the wildcard function has been removed : http://help.forumotion.com/t120105p30-latest-posts#792198

So, you can complain here if you want, that won't change anything.
The technical team only take into account the polls to discuss about a new functionnality.

Definitely a poll is not a solution, its a means for the company to know how much amount of users really want a certain feature. In this case, the latest posts which was a removed feature for the reasons already mentioned. So, to avoid the server load they've removed it & a poll is added to find out is it really affecting a majority of users.

Acknowledging the importance of a issue by me or Leeloo doesn't mean it gets accepted or has to get added. The company decides its policies based on their client requirements & not individual requirements/opinions.

About considering it a serious functionality, I still do not consider it a serious functionality.
http://help.forumotion.com/search.forum?search_id=newposts
That link gives enough for us to go through the whole forum.

With this, lets not discuss about a feature that is removed in this thread. Getting votes & your opinions in the suggestion thread would be much more helpful for getting back the feature if at all it is reverted back.

Re: New Forumotion updates : your opinion !

Post by Asteroid35 on March 1st 2013, 3:01 pm

I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused. I'm not sure if you are misunderstanding what I am saying or if I am misunderstanding you. I'm not talking about any feature which has been removed from the desktop site.

I am talking about the little icon here -
which you click to view the latest post in a thread.

That functionality still seems to work fine on the desktop (and I think it is a necessary function) but not on the mobile site. So the only way you can get to the last page of a thread is to go through all the pages. I consider it to be a serious usability requirement in a forum that you be able to open a thread on the last page rather than go through numerous pages to get to it, and if you haven't misunderstood me on this matter, I would be surprised if you thought that that wasn't important.

I'm happy to post about it elsewhere if that is necessary, but I thought I would at least try to clarify what I mean here as I think there is a good chance that what I have said hasn't been correctly understood...

Also - this isn't a big deal to me. Life's too short to worry about this stuff too much. I'd just quite like to use the mobile site, that's all, and it just isn't practical to do so in its current form so I'll stick to the desktop version until that usability feature is added.

Anyway, didn't mean to cause a fuss.

Asteroid35, I think Leeloo misunderstood your suggestion. However, my reply was to runawayhorses as I think he was replying to Leeloo's post.

To answer your query, does it even show that image on the mobile version? Confused

Re: New Forumotion updates : your opinion !

Post by Asteroid35 on March 1st 2013, 3:25 pm

No, there is just a list of threads. You tap the thread title in the list, and it opens the thread on 'page 1 of 35' (as in the case of the thread I just opened on my iPod Touch).

There is a 'Next' button at the top right of the page which takes you to page 2 of the thread (and a 'Prev' button on the left on page 2 and above to go back a page), but no apparent button to take you directly to page 35. So you have to tap the 'Next' button 34 times to reach the most recent post after opening a thread! You'd have to have a great deal of patience to hold a conversation in a thread like that... Smile

No problem. Very Happy

Yes, preferably a button on the list of threads to go to the latest post (or latest page).

And/or maybe a button next to the 'Next' button on the thread pages which took you to the last page.

Maybe it could be labeled 'Last' or 'Latest' or the last page number?

As I say, if either or both of those were added, I would use the mobile site in preference over the desktop site on my mobile devices from then on. Until then, 'pinch to zoom' is unfortunately much easier. Smile

OK fine. Very Happy

We added some little improvements to the mobile version and some other improvements are planned very soon.
As stated above, the polls are the best way to be sure that your ideas are known by the whole communities (so that members can vote) and by the technical team (so that they know what is expected by the community of members).

So, I'll suggest you to open a new poll about these improvements you'd like to see Wink
You can be sure that it will be read and taken into account.

Hi all! I like the V2 very nicely! I still have a small suggestion to make and a question.

Suggestion: Have the ACP open up in a separate browser window / tab.
Question: How can I add / personalize the menus?

I'd like the option to change the opacity of the toolbar, change the colour of the search bar and option to hide the share options.

EDIT: and change text size and font.

You can do all of that, just ask it in the help sections for the answers this section isn't for asking code questions.

I have to admit I like the toolbar function. My only wish is, the name of the thread would come up instead of saying "Watched Topic" as it does get a little confusing so I've disabled that option on nearly every forum I go on.

Overall though nice option.
