Automated birthday message

I have enabled the automatic birthday message yet its not working at all for any of my members.
I followed the steps i found in another thread can someone please help

Do you have it activated where the forum list the birthdays of members in the legend?

yes i do , i did a test on myself and it worked so maybe they need to allow popups.,
also i used an image in the message but it only shows the code.
I used [img] do i need to use html or does an image work at all in the popup?
