Toolbar

Post by tugatech on February 17th 2013, 11:22 am

Hello,

I have a quick question: is possible mantain the toolbar active, but hide it by CSS?
Note that is the full toolbar, not only the link for Forumotion.

And that will break any rule of Forumotion?

Thank you

So you want not to use the tool bar by other members or something? You can actually hide it by just clicking the upper arrow on it.

Find the tutorial about the tool bar addons and shiz and do that, but just maintain the notifications by the command and by making the bg transparent by mixing the correct color code with your current BG. Though, ask Rideem that since I"m not sure if that's allowed.

If you want any part of the toolbar to be active, the Forumotion Link needs to remain.

Hello,

Thanks for the info, but i think you didn't understand or i didn't explain right.

I want hide ALL the toolbar.
All in this image:
https://i75.servimg.com/u/f75/15/07/56/36/tugate10.jpg
Including the notifications,"hide arrows",etc... Nothing of the toolbar will be displayed.

For instance, using the CSS:
Code:
#fa_toolbar {
display: none;
}
This code will hide all the toolbar and functions...

I just want mantain this (the Notification tab) in the profile of the users:
https://i75.servimg.com/u/f75/15/07/56/36/tugate11.jpg

Is that against the rules?

Thanks

Yes, hiding the toolbar using css would be against the rules.

So...
Why in the following post appears the code to remove it?
http://help.forumotion.com/t120381-customize-your-toolbar-through-css-and-javascript

Im confused because of that.
You said is not allowed, but then, another "Administrator" gives the code to do that.

"You can also hide the toolbar from members and guests."
https://i75.servimg.com/u/f75/15/07/56/36/tugate12.jpg

So is permited or not? Razz

Thanks

"You can also hide the toolbar from members and guests."

The css code removes it for all.

So if you want users to get the notifications, they should have the forumotion link.

Hello,

I think you didn't understand.
The code provided in the topic (http://help.forumotion.com/t120381-customize-your-toolbar-through-css-and-javascript ) is exactly the same as put the css for hide the toolbar.

More, in the code you can see that is being added the css code:
Code:
(...)$('head').append('<style id="toolbar_style" type="text/css">#fa_toolbar { display: none; }</style>'); (...)

That javascript does exacly the same as add the CSS manualy... :/

So, that javascript is exacly the same as put in my css file:
Code:
#fa_toolbar {
display: none;
}

That is my confusion, becouse you said that is not allowed hide the toolbar completly, but then, another admin post the javascript code to do that... Confused

I believe that if you hide it the notifications would not work.

Yes, thats right.
The notifications doesn't appear in the toolbar when hidden, but appears in the users profiles, on the tab "Notifications".

hello,

again i am confused...
So is not allowed to hide the toolbar completly? Note that the notifications also are hidden....

But the code to do exacly that is in the above messages, and, if im not mistaken, it was posted by "Leeloo" here: http://help.forumotion.com/t120381-customize-your-toolbar-through-css-and-javascript

I tell you some thing I'm a little lost here to in the thread about toolbar tips
it says that you can hide the toolbar but yet the staff here say that the rules say you can not hide the toolbar if it's turned on by the ACP

Not really sure why you would want to hide the toolbar if you want to use it's settings anyway unless your going to make a mod that will show up your Notifications your self using the codes that is in the toolbar its self..then that would be breaking the TOS and rules.

Your best bet is to just leave the bar alone until FM have worked out a way to remove the FM logo and link with how ever there going to do it Wink

I think leeloo should remove the code about hiding the toolbar until we know more. Silly putting a code to be used if it's going to break the rules Don't you think ??

The difference being if you hide the toolbar with the javascript that is posted in the "customize your toolbar through CSS and Javascript topic, the javascript is titled as only hiding it from Members and Guests, and says nothing about hiding it from the Admin, whereas hiding it with CSS would hide it from everyone including the Admin.

That's the difference.

tugatech, this is the complete code. Also, its mentioned that the code will remove it for members & guests. I have not tried to use this code. You can test it & see if after adding the code, it removes only for members & guests.
Code:
$('head').append('<style id="toolbar_style" type="text/css">#fa_toolbar { display: none; }</style>');
$(window).load(function () {
    if (_userdata.user_level == 0) $('#fa_toolbar').remove();
    else $('#toolbar_style').remove();
});

Edit: runawayhorses & Rideem both are correct Razz
